About this ebook

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:

#1 When we got married, we knew we wanted children someday, but we also knew that our family home would not be complete without a dog sprawled at our feet. We had grown up with dogs, and loved them immensely.

#2 We had just bought a house in West Palm Beach, and we spent months refurbishing it. We brought home a large, four-legged roommate with sharp toenails, large teeth, and exceedingly limited English-language skills.

#3 A breeder, or hobbyist, is someone who breeds dogs for love rather than money. They will usually have a distinct bloodline for each puppy, and will sell them for cheap.

#4 When we brought home Clearance Dog, he turned out to be a very loveable puppy. But his strange, joyous gaze left me slightly creeped out.

    Insights from Chapter 2

    #1

We had a fight on the drive home from the breeder’s, and we could not agree on what to name our Clearance Dog. We decided to name him after Bob Marley, our favorite musician, because it was such a achingly beautiful song.

    #2

I wanted to enter Marley in dog shows, so I decided to add the name Grogan’s Majestic Marley of Churchill. Jenny didn’t like it at all.

    Insights from Chapter 3

    #1

I was relieved to learn that the Labrador retriever is a loving, even-keeled animal with a gentleness for children. However, the literature is filled with warnings about the breed’s intelligence and loyalty.
