Personal Development - Angel Gabaldon
INTRODUCTION
Life is a succession of experiences. The main goal of our lives is happiness.
The purpose of our lives is to be happy
- Dalai Lama
Peace of mind and inner peace is what gives us the most happiness, even more than being in love.[1]
A happy life consists in having peace of mind
- Cicero.
To achieve lasting happiness we must positively assess what is happening and what we have, as well as try to achieve philosophical ataraxia, a state of mind characterized by tranquility.
PART ONE: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
desarrollo_personal.jpgPersonal development is a process of discovering aspects that improve our well-being and allow us to grow, acquire skills and improve our lives.
Well-being
Well-being is about feeling well with yourself and with life. To experience it requires a correct state of health, social, loving and family life, spirituality, finances (to cover material needs), etc.
Gratitude is the feeling that is most related to well-being.
The second part of the book is about improving finances, but let's start by looking at topics related to personal development.
Self-esteem
Human beings, according to Dale Carnegie, seek to feel important and appreciated by others.
However, the first thing we have to achieve is to love ourselves, have a strong self-esteem, and inner peace.
Self-esteem is the value of oneself. With good self-esteem we feel more secure, we trust others more and we have greater emotional stability.
Self-esteem and depression are closely related. Although this is caused by multiple factors, clinical studies indicate that a low self-esteem maintained over time makes us much more vulnerable to suffering from depression, the second most common mental disorder.[2]
To increase our self-esteem we must avoid any negative thoughts about ourselves and stop comparing ourselves to others. Physical exercise and social relationships increase our self-esteem.
Another way is to make positive affirmations about oneself, like I am useful for society
.
Also, say (mentally) I love you
every time you see yourself in a mirror.
You can also write the 5 qualities that you value the most about yourself.
Meditation
Meditation allows us to train the mind, which is our most powerful asset.
Among the benefits of this practice are:[3]
● Development of empathy
