Contracts Versus Who God Is - Gery Malanda
Contracts versus who God is
Our main scripture reading is taken from Matthew 20:1-16.
Matthew 20:1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man (landowner) who is a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
Matthew 20:2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
Matthew 20:3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
Matthew 20:4 And said unto them; you also go into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
Matthew 20:5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
Matthew 20:6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and said unto them, Why have you been standing here all the day idle?
Matthew 20:7 They said unto him, Because no man has hired us. He said unto them, you also go into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right you shall receive.
Matthew 20:8 So when evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their wages, beginning from the last unto the first.
Matthew 20:9 And when they came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a denarius.
Matthew 20:10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a denarius.
Matthew 20:11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house (landowner),
Matthew 20:12 Saying, These last have worked only one hour, and you have made them equal unto us, who have borne the burden and heat of the day.
Matthew 20:13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I am doing you no wrong: did you not agree with me for a denarius?
Matthew 20:14 Take what is yours and go your way: I will give unto this last man the same as unto you.
Matthew 20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with mine own things? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?
Matthew 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many are called, but few chosen.

When we are serving God, we can expect to receive something from Him. God Himself tells us, that it is not in vain that we are serving the Lord. Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58). Now he who plants and he who waters are one: and every man or woman shall receive his or her own reward according to his own
