I would like to thank my incredibly loving and supportive family and friends, especially my parents. Without you all and faith, I could not have achieved this. Teamwork makes the dream work. And to all my cancer fighters and survivors I write this for you. We each go through our own journey but collectively know we are in this together. This is for you all.
I would also graciously love to thank the Cohen family, thank you for your help when our family was in need.
In Loving Memory of Stephanie Bradshaw
Everyone you encounter has some connection to cancer. Whether they suffered themselves or knew someone going through something so tragic. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in America. Why? How can something spread so quickly and cause overall life or death experience in the blink of an eye? These are the questions we may ask ourselves on a day-to-day basis. At 28 years old, I am a two-time cancer survivor, a pediatric and young adult survivor. My goal is to create less stigma around the word cancer and a better understanding of how lifestyle, mindset, and holistic health can play a big-time role. I hope my story will inspire others to take ownership of their health. Let’s begin.
FOREWORD BY EUGENIA BRADSHAW
As I write this forward for my daughter Gena, I have immense feelings of pride and admiration. Eugenia Bradshaw, Gena for short was born on June 27, 1993, she is the oldest of five. Fast forward three and a half years, this is where her cancer journey began. She was three and a half and had her two brothers, Nicholas two years old and Raffaele two months old when she was diagnosed with leukemia, that’s when it all changed.
From the beginning she was an active, healthy, happy out going child who had tons of energy. She had a spirit of adventure and loved the outdoors. Even through her battle with leukemia she loved to go to the beach, eat good food and play. There were days in the hospital where she could barely move and was so sick, but she would force herself to go to the playroom and try and have some fun. This battle went on for almost three years then another two of continued testing to make sure she was out of the woods.
By the time she was done with her treatment and testing period she had a new sister Anna Lieza. As a family we were very active and loved to cook and eat good food. Her love of a healthy lifestyle began and continues to this day. Growing up in a large Italian family with three boys, Anthony Tucker the youngest was born when Gena was eight, she was always competing with them. My husband and I were in the health and fitness business, so she took an interest at a young age. She would come to group training or team training sessions and jump right in to help. She loved to move and competition. When she started high school, I suggested she tryout for the cross-country team, she did but wasn’t fond of it. She then continued with track and field and discovered a talent for sprinting and throwing the javelin, (which was encouraged by Ed Kilkelly an amazing man and coach who was a mentor to me). This led her to become a collegiate student-athlete at Ithaca College. She had no hesitation in deciding her major of exercise science and continued her journey. During her junior year she finds out that she had a 4cm growth in her neck. It turns out to be thyroid cancer…after her diagnosis she says, great I had cancer twice.
This was also the end of her junior year but was insistent on finishing her season and her finals, instead of bringing her down it made her stronger. She was determined to get over it and move on.
After college she immersed herself in the field and knew this was her path in life. She
