For the cranky people – you deserve love too.
April
Honestly, April, I’m totally fine. I swear it.
I’m still coming to see you,
I told my best friend Marissa. You fell in love and got engaged within two weeks of arriving in that town. There’s no way I’m not coming to check on you and make sure you weren’t inducted into a cult.
I don’t think cults actually induct people. It’s not like a sorority.
I heard some whispering in the background—Marissa talking to her new boyfriend, presumably.
Is he there with you right now? Are you being held hostage? Give me a signal. Ask me how my kitten is if you can’t talk freely.
You don’t have a kitten, and I’m not being held hostage by a deranged cult member.
I heard masculine laughter in the background and rolled my eyes. I hated people who eavesdrop.
Tony wants to know if you found a place to stay? Otherwise, his mom can put you up if you want. She’s already said she wouldn’t mind. I would let you stay here but we live in a very small one-bedroom, and it would be a little bit crowded with the three of us here.
Like I want to listen to you two having monkey sex,
I responded drily. I found some place with private cabins just outside of town that has space available since it’s the off-season. It’s called the Bear Claw Cabins or something like that.
Marissa relayed the information to her boyfriend, then relayed back, Tony says that’s a nice place. It’s run by a, um...lady who knows his mom. There are six cabins on the property that they rent out, plus a manager cabin. All the units back right up on the forest so it’s very quiet and beautiful. You’re going to love Greysden, I just know it.
Great, I could use a break after the month I’ve had. I’ll look forward to seeing you tomorrow when I get in. I just hope that cult isn’t making you dress all in white like we saw on that Netflix special. White just doesn’t work for your coloring.
Har har. I’m looking forward to seeing you too, sweetie. I’ll call you as soon as I get off work tomorrow and we can get together then.
The next day after my shift I made the two-hour drive to Greysden, the small town where my bestie had moved last month. She had only been in town about a week before she called me and sheepishly told me that she’d met someone and fallen head over heels in love, then a week later she announced that she was planning to get married right after Christmas.
It was one of the most shocking things I’d ever heard. Marissa and I had been best friends for twenty years, ever since high school and in all the years I’d known her, she’d always been the cautious one in any relationship. She didn’t even like to sleep with the guy until after at least a month of dating, and now she was living with some dude she’d known like two weeks?
Something weird was definitely going on.
She claimed it was love at first sight but even just a few weeks ago, Marissa would have been the first one to say that instalove was a ridiculous myth. We had both seen several women get charmed and fall head over heels in love only
