Introduction To The Thought Of Ernesto Laclau: UNIVERSITY SUMMARIES
()
About this ebook
Various traditions within the social sciences (positivism, hermeneutics, etc.) start from social facts as something positively "given." A theorist of the social sciences, Ernesto Laclau, an Argentine based in Essex, has developed an original work, where THE STARTING POINT IS TO SEE THE SOCIAL AT ITS FAILURE POINT, IN ITS DISLOCATION AND IMPOSSIBILITY. LACLAU JOINS two very important trends in contemporary thought: DESCONSTRUCTION AND PRAGMATISM. The first current has its origin in Nietzsche, and its objective is to demolish the constructions of classical philosophy to reach its foundations, that is, the ideals most valued by metaphysics: essence, truth, foundation. He is interested in this, in terms of exposing the radical CONTINGENCY (the accidental, the unnecessary) that makes them possible. To address the issue, we have summarized the essentials of "Ernesto Laclau: a new logic of social relations", by Silvia Rivera.

LACLAU
Various traditions within the social sciences (positivism, hermeneutics, etc.) start from social facts as something positively given.
A theorist of the social sciences, Ernesto Laclau, an Argentine based in Essex, has developed an original work, where THE STARTING POINT IS TO SEE THE SOCIAL AT ITS FAILURE POINT, IN ITS DISLOCATION AND IMPOSSIBILITY.
The application that Laclau carries out in political and social theory suggests that what is called society
is also a tribute to this contingency. This is noticeable when we see that the results that leave a mark on the social are the result of DECISIONS in which each of us is inserting ourselves.
This concept points to their lack of metaphysical justification, to the fact that they are the product of a historical-political contingency.
Deconstruction is implied at first in Laclau's theory, the second is pragmatism. This has its origin in a current of thought that emerged in North America, and whose most prominent exponents were Charles Sanders Pierce, John Dewey and William James.
THE CENTRAL ASPECT OF PRAGMATISM LIES IN THE REJECTION OF THE METAPHYSICAL DUALISMS (APPEARANCE / REALITY, SUBSTANCE / ACCIDENT, ETC) WHICH HAVE MADE THE MOST TRAVELED IN THE HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY
PRAGMATISM ASPIRES to think of a horizon free of prejudices of this style and to delineate another that is the product of mobile and changing flows. The reality, and this is the conclusion that Laclau draws from this, is a CONTINGENT AND PARTICULAR CONSTRUCTION.
Laclau, at this point, also takes up the orientation of Wittgenstein, focused on the attention on the USE of language (who really makes the conjunction between the Viennese philosopher and North American pragmatism is Richard Rorty, a thinker to whom Laclau pays special attention, together with Derrida and Lacan). For Wittgenstein, the use of language is carried out through a socially regulated codification. But at the same time, these uses have a really constitutive function for the image of the world, common to various subjects (who, in turn, are also linguistically determined).
FOR LACLAU, IN SOCIAL THEORY THERE IS NO AN OBJECTIVE AND
