One Day at a Time
––––––––
Every day may not be good, but there is something good every day.
January 1
Hold comfort in your heart.
"Whatever you're facing right now,
there's a way out."
- Paul Jukes
Today's message
Take comfort knowing you are strong. Do what brings comfort to your heart. Put your mind at ease and trust that things will get better. If things seem too challenging, think about a difficult time in the past, and notice your strength in navigating the struggle. There is evidence that tough times will pass, and you will get through things. Take comfort in knowing life isn't always going to be perfect.
Remember
Sometimes it is essential to remind yourself that everything will be ok. Writing in a journal is a way of talking to yourself without being interrupted. It is a beautiful way to process emotions and understand your thoughts. Think about what you need today. Try to find things that bring you comfort and do them during your times of struggle.
Ask yourself
What brings me peace? What gives me mental clarity? What brings me comfort?
January 2
Take notice of friendship.
"The greatest healing therapy
is friendship and love."
- Hubert Humphrey
Today's message
Think about all the things that are going well for you right now and notice all the love surrounding you.
It is up to you to believe and cherish those around you. Take the moments that you are in and make them meaningful. Reach out to others. Make time for the people in your life. Human connection and a sense of community are essential for your well-being. Talking with a friend or family member can offer an excellent source of strength. It is essential to be a friend to others as well. To have friends, you need to be a friend. Think about people you can call and connect with today. Choose to up the priority of friendships in your life. When you go through a struggle in life, which you inevitably will, your friends will offer you support and comfort through those trying times. It is also what they need when they are going through a struggle.
Ask yourself
Who are my good friends? Who can I reach out to and connect with today? Who helps and supports me along my path?
January 3
Enjoy gentle environments.
"There is nothing like staying at home
for real comfort."
- Jane Austen
Today's message
Gentle people often treat others with kindness and a mild manner; you will need these people at certain times in your life. Be kind to yourself and learn to love who and what you are; forgive yourself. A peaceful environment starts with you. Retrain your mind to seek peace regularly. Surround yourself with warm and caring people that make you feel at ease. Choose to do things that are gentle and calming today. Calmness and gentleness soothe and calm your nervous system. Notice the people in your environment. Spend time in peaceful environments today. Look around and notice how you can make your environment more gentle and quieter. Notice your thoughts. How can you make your thoughts more soothing and gentler? You can influence your environment and choose where you want to be, what you want to focus on, and who you choose to be with. Choose gentleness today.
Affirm
I choose gentleness and peace in my life.
I listen to beautiful calming music.
I surround myself with beauty and calm.
January 4
Choose to find peace.
"Forgive others, not because
they deserve forgiveness,
but because you deserve peace."
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Today's message
Peace is the result of training and retraining your mind to interpret life as it is rather than how you think it should be. Don't let the bad behaviour of others destroy your sense of inner peace. Forgiveness is not for others but rather for you. It is about releasing any grievance story and retelling it with you as the hero instead of a victim. What grudge or grievance story have you been holding? As Fred Luskin, author of Forgive for Good, cleverly puts it: forgiveness is the practice of extending your moments of peacefulness; forgiveness is the power that comes from knowing a past injustice does not have to hurt today. Forgiveness is available anytime entirely under your control. It does not rely on the actions of others; it is a choice you alone can make.
Ask yourself
How can I stop fighting and taking things personally, and in doing so, find peace? Can I change the channel of my thinking to the joy, beauty, or love channel?
January 5
Be understanding with yourself.
"Don't just be good to others.
Be good to yourself too."
- Old Saying
Today's message
You deserve to have all the beautiful things in life.
It's ok to focus on self-care and be selfish. Taking time to yourself will help you grow and learn. Being kind and understanding towards yourself is like being your own best friend. Nobody in life is perfect; it's essential not to be hard on yourself. Take time to listen to your needs, wants, and feelings today. Tap into things that you need, desire, and wish for today. Honour feelings that you might be having today. Offer yourself some compassion and grace. Without judgment, accept who you are and where you are today. Be grateful for the life you are living and the person you are today. Be good towards yourself. Just like you are kind to a best friend or loved one, be caring towards yourself
