Introduction To Top Poppin’ and Mighty Mommin’
So…you now or soon will be a Mom or a Pop? (O.K., we’ll mostly use Dad from now on. It’s much more common, but I loved Top Poppin’ in the title.) Or perhaps you need a great gift for new parents? Congratulations!!
Whether you’re a beginning parent or have already gotten your feet wet this book is designed to be of value to you. It presents tried and true techniques for the parents of young children to look over, and a few ideas that are more recent. And there are blank pages where you can record notes on what really worked for you, to pass on to whoever you choose. Perhaps you’ll bequeath it to the very children you were raising when you use this book.
Some people feel that there is no higher calling than shaping kids, tomorrow’s adults, the bricks of our future society. They may be right. In one sense, parenting is the art of nurturing and steering the growth of your children. You are sculpting them into quality human beings who will be a genuine blessing to the generations of people who will come to know them.
Your efforts and accomplishments as a parent comprise a facet of your life that will profoundly shape your own legacy as a person. That may sound daunting, but it’s a tough truth to avoid. Someone, somewhere, sometime is going to take notice of the job you’ve done with your children. Your children are your human legacy. And whether they specialize in lawn work, focus on parenting, or attain to the Presidency there is no reason they can’t be such special people that others remember them and count themselves glad to have known them.
Enjoy this book and use your own judgement as to which portions may be right for your intended parenting style. There are also a few examples of parenting techniques and parenting oddities from other nations.
So, review the different subjects and see what might work for you. It’s all about helping people be a Top Pop or a Mighty Mom as they tackle parenting, which is without question one of life’s truly great challenges.
Interesting Approaches to Parenting #1:
In the Scandinavian countries it is an accepted truth that sunshine and fresh air are especially healthful for a baby. They also feel that they have a society that is wholesome and trustworthy concerning babies, which has historically proven to be true. So, if Mom and Dad decide to push the stroller down to the local cafe and go in for a bite to eat, it is considered quite acceptable to leave the baby bundled up in its stroller outside on the sidewalk while they are inside enjoying their meal.
Seeing a few such well-loved but unattended babies, perhaps with just their little faces showing due to the chilly temperature, parked outside of a cafe or store is a normal enough scene in many areas of Scandinavia. Every society should aspire to have so safe of a community environment for their young, right?
Chapter 1
Surviving the Demanding Newborn Days
You’ve had the baby and now you are home from the hospital. Welcome to long nights with very little sleep, and a precious but somewhat needy and unreasonable special someone…and lots of worries if it is your first time. Is the baby sick or merely irritable? If sick, how sick? Is it ‘take it to the emergency room’ sick, or ‘just hold it and soothe it’ sick? And you can become so tired, so wishful of good sleep. How do Mom and Dad make it through?
Well, there is no way to make the newborn days painless, but there are various battle strategies that have been successfully employed. While this book doesn’t give any medical advice for reasons that you can surely understand, here are some tips
