Dear friend, surely if you are reading these words it is because you are going to be a father and, although it is very difficult to admit it, you are quite scared.
No, don't worry, your masculinity is not in danger because of this. The rest of us men who have already been fathers understand you, even if sometimes we don't know how to put it into words.
Ever since humans came down from the trees, some three million years ago, the care of newborns has been the key to the success of the Homo species. Our babies are born blind, without strength in their legs and without a protective layer of hair, so they depend exclusively on other people to survive.
Their mother and father, or their mothers and fathers, will have to feed them, keep them warm, clean them and take them to the doctor to cure their illnesses.
And even though the child will grow up and learn to fend for herself or himself, she or he will need someone to take care of her or him for at least ten years.
So your life is about to change dramatically. You will soon have a tiny human being on your hands who will depend on you around the clock and who is genetically programmed to cry in a way that will inevitably disrupt your entire nervous system if his or her needs are not met immediately.
For thousands of years childcare has been a job exclusively attributed to women. This is an absurd worldview that has been constructed by the patriarchy for its sole benefit. The man went out to work or to do business to earn money and support his family and the woman stayed at home to take care of the children, who were usually numerous.
Thanks to the struggle of some pioneering women this macho way of looking at fatherhood has been changing and now most of us men are also part of this battle for gender equality.
So now, dad-to-be who is reading the first page of this book, you have to share the care of your child with your partner at least fifty-fifty.
A HARD TASK AWAITS YOU, STRENUOUS WORK WITH NOTHING IN RETURN.
SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, ANXIETY AND NERVOUSNESS.
YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR PARTNER MAY SUFFER UPS AND DOWNS DUE TO STRESS.
YOUR LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.
Ha ha ha! The above was a joke, because if you stop for a moment and think that billions
