Introduction
49651.pngMy journey to getting pregnant naturally officially began when I was involved in a car accident while working in Hawaii in August 1994. I was in a parking lot, and somebody backed into my car. After the accident, my neck was stiff, so I found a local chiropractor. She was a very cheerful person and radiated positive energy. After each treatment, I felt better physically and mentally. After several weeks, she recommended that I undergo polarity therapy and massage. I was very fortunate to get one of the top masseurs in Hawaii. She was excellent. We were talking about the accident, and she told me she believed there was no such thing as an accident. She said things happen for a reason, and although we don’t know why at the time, we usually find out later. I told her during the course of my treatment that I was trying to get pregnant (I told everyone I met). She told me to contact her when I got pregnant. She suggested I try acupuncture when I got home.
I went to the acupuncturist in October 1994. She recommended that I see a Chinese doctor. The doctor prescribed a variety of herbs to balance my body. While at the office, I saw a brochure for Chi Nei Tsang and the six healing sounds. It looked interesting, so I decided to try it. I felt like I was embarking on a journey that would result in me getting pregnant. I was excited to know that I would learn many new things about my body in the process. The practitioner who performed Chi Nei Tsang taught me about Chinese medicine and how the Chinese believe that different organs carry your emotions. She taught me how to do the inner smile and the six healing sounds. She told me to avoid cold foods. Her methods were very different, but I desperately wanted to get pregnant, so I followed her directions. She was also going to the same Chinese doctor. I even convinced my husband to go to her too.
She also recommended a therapist who also did bodywork. The therapist said my heart was closed, and it needed to be open to conceive a child. I was concentrating on getting pregnant and was under so much stress, so my husband and I decided to take a break. I focused on improving myself and did not think about getting pregnant. I signed up for a yoga class in September 1995 and started meditating. I also joined an infertility support group through RESOLVE.
I continued seeing the Chinese doctor and taking the herbs he prescribed, but the prescriptions were in Chinese, so I had no idea what I was taking. So I did my own research. While looking at a local alternative medicine magazine, I saw a class on herbs that taught treatments and remedies for the systems of the body. I signed up for a class on the female reproductive system. The treatments included herbs for endometriosis and fibroid tumors (both of which I had). The class began in September 1995. The herbalist recommended herbs for both conditions, so I began drinking herb tea daily. The herbs smelled terrible! It was so bad that my husband made me brew the tea outside. He thought I had gone crazy. I told him it was cheaper than fertility drugs and in vitro fertilization.
In the middle of November 1995, at thirty-six years old, much to my surprise, I became pregnant! We did three home pregnancy tests because we didn’t believe it. In August 1996, we became the proud parents of a beautiful, healthy baby girl! Our dream finally came true after a long and trying four and a half years.
We started trying for a second child when my daughter was a year old. I had a feeling that I was still on a journey and I needed to go another route. I had a strong feeling that the herbs would not work for me, so I meditated and trusted my intuition to find the right method this time. Through reading the book Friendship with God by Neale Donald Walsch, I learned about Dahnhak / Body and Brain. Dahnhak is a Korean mind/body training program that teaches how to develop your mind and body by enabling you to feel and utilize the ki energy. I began going to classes in March 2000, and by the end of April, I was pregnant again at age forty. I had another healthy baby girl in January 2001, at the age of forty-one.
In this book, I will introduce you to the various paths I took to become pregnant. We discussed going the conventional method (i.e., fertility drugs and in vitro fertilization) but decided against it because the success rate was low, and it was very expensive. In addition, I was not comfortable with the long-term effects of the fertility drugs on my body. Prior to 1994, I had four laparoscopies. During two of the four laparoscopies, they did laser surgery to remove endometriosis. I also had uterine fibroids. The only conventional drug I used was Clomid and Inter Uterine Insemination (IUI) for four months. I also monitored my temperature and cervical mucus daily during that time.
Everything presented in this book, I have personally experienced. Chapter 1 presents the sobering facts on infertility by traditional methods. It is much more common than you would think.
Chapter 2 will cover the topic of Chinese medicine. The Chinese believe that we are connected with nature, heaven, and earth. This includes the principles of yin and yang and how qi flows in our bodies. I will explain the five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—and how they affect our energy. I will present some easy and quick sexercises
designed to increase sexual energy for both men and women. This chapter also includes a discussion of acupuncture, suggested herbs and vitamins designed to increase fertility, and easy Chi Nei Tsang practices, including the six healing sounds for your organs and the inner smile to balance and relax
