About this ebook

An unapologetic tribute to fellow Singaporean, this rendition of snippets of Olive’s life calls for her country to wake up and be discerning. It isn’t as though Singaporeans aren’t discerning already, however Olive simply wanted to turn observations and opinions into printed word for all to see, encouraging Singaporeans to be bold and strong and commit themselves to their aspirations. While writing the book, Olive had in mind the leaders of her country, and also she harbors the inner aspirations to become a much coveted lawyer. The idea is to speak up and not be fearful of politics and the Singapore government. The support for this children’s book will benefit many in Singapore who are living in Reflection of the Buddha. Call it corny!

Olive

This is a children’s book for those who love living in Reflection of the Buddha or also known as the Tathagata’s life. A follow up book to the author’s first book edition ‘T’, ‘ABC’ is witty and funny, just like the author.

The English alphabet starts with ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’. English is the principal language of Great Britain, the US, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries. There are some 400 million native speakers, and it is the medium of communication for many millions more. In Singapore, English is taught as the first language whilst children allows their ethnic language to be either a second language or as a parallel to the first English language. Singaporean kindergarten teaches the basics to toddlers well before they are aware of its use. There is a sublime way of picking up the language through daily consistent usage. However, Singaporean children are also very fast to think in the medium of their preferred language due to good influence at a very young age. They too undergo some psychosis from the adults whom they trust, usually their parents, and sometimes from the other adults whom they call Uncles and Aunties.

The older we get in Singapore, we seem to think of ABC differently. What can you think of when learning your ABCs? In Singapore, we have ‘Singlish’ – which is the product of the dialects, such as Hokkien, Teochew and Cantonese, and different languages combined, them being Tamil and Malay. With a bit of imagination, we can ruin the definition of ‘ABC’, much to the horror of the BBC. It is the opposite of ‘facts’.
