I bow and worship you, God Almighty, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit for the abundant life, mercy, and love you are showing to me. All the glory and praise are yours alone.
To my children Joel, Jethro, Joseph, Jessica, and JoAnne—you are gifts from God, and I am very proud to be your father. I also dedicate this work to all the children who have been taken away prematurely from their families by this crazy world
and who will therefore never be able to fulfil their dreams and potential.

Foreword
I want to tell you about my Idaho home. God has blessed my wife, Liz, and I with a beautiful home in North Central Idaho. From our front porch, looking north, we have an unobstructed view toward the city of Lewiston, the town closest to us, about fifteen miles away. At night, when the lights of Lewiston shine in the distance, it is a sight that always seems to bring a smile to my face. Looking out our windows to the west, we look into Hells Canyon and beyond to neighboring Washington State. The most gorgeous sunsets I have ever witnessed I have seen from our house, looking west over this magnificent canyon. To the south of our house is the mountain.
Not another house in sight. Just a mountainside full of trees and brush—and deer. Lots of deer. One of our favorite pastimes is feeding apples to the deer that readily jump over the fence into our yard for their apple treats. In short, where we live is our own piece of heaven on earth. We are truly blessed!
But, to present a complete and honest picture of our home and land, I need to mention the rattlesnakes. Yes, rattlesnakes. I’ve had to kill several on our property and have seen as many more that were able to get away from me before I could dispose of them. In the midst of this God-given, idyllic setting—rattlesnakes. Needless to say, we are always watchful anytime we are outside on our property. And, Liz and I both have snake-proof
boots that we wear outside during the height of rattlesnake season, which comes during the warm summer months. While neither of us has actually had them tested, these knee-high boots are supposed to repel snake bites. Knowing this allows us to walk in faith
and with confidence when we go for a walkabout on our land.
Pastor Joe Nwokoye is our friend and brother from Africa. He is well travelled, was raised in Nigeria, and resides in Scotland in the United Kingdom. He is qualified to write such a great book about the dangerous world we are living in.
But, just like my beautiful Idaho home has its share of rattlesnakes, our beautiful earthly home has its own dangers and pitfalls as well. In this book, Pastor Joe explores some of the craziness—that is, the rattlesnakes,
if you will—that can make this otherwise idyllic world dreadfully dangerous at times. Hatred, evil, war, terrorism … The list of rattlesnakes
in our world, which we must be aware of each and every day, goes on and on.
So, what do we do? Are we to cower inside of our homes so we can avoid the rattlesnakes—the evils of the world? Not at all! Jesus has directed us, his disciples, to go out to all parts of this world in which we live. Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth
(Acts 1:8 NIV). We are called to go to the farthest reaches of our world. But, just as my wife and I wear snake boots in order to walk confidently around on our small piece of property, we all need to prepare ourselves to face—and conquer—the evils that await us in our world. In Ephesians 6:10–18 Paul admonishes us to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power
and to put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes
(NIV). He goes on in this passage to outline exactly what he is talking about when he refers to the full armor of God.
The bottom line is that we must be prepared! And we need more than just snake boots! It is essential that we dress ourselves daily in the spiritual armor that Paul advises that we wear for protection.
Paul closes out this section of scripture with the phrase, be alert.
This book will enable all who read it to be more alert—more prepared—to face the
