Poems of Conviction: Volume 4

About this ebook
For we couldn't quell excitement, no matter how we'd try.
But we managed to survive it, and we gave a huge hurrah,
As quickly we descended into Addis Ababa.
Then there was immigration, such a real chaotic scene,
It has to be the very worst, of all places I have been.
But eventually we got through it, and we met the morning Sun,
Now to see the children, now to have some fun.
But first there were the cases, fifty odd or so,
All to be accounted for, before we got to go.
But eventually we made it, and off we set at last,
Next stop please Kuriftu, and driver make it fast.
We took in all the scenery, every road and field and street,
But still we were impatient as the children we could meet.
We drove up to the compound and they opened up the gate,
Our adventure was about to start, thanks to God who's truly Great.
We got to share in worship, met again with many friends,
Hoped, and prayed with all our hearts, this journey never ends.
But best of all the children, for they made our trip worthwhile,
For nothing beats the pleasure, when you see the children smile,
The time we had was precious; every minute filled with glee,
And I have to thank the Lord above for sharing it with me.
The memory is indelible; its sun will never set,
Something to be treasured that I never will forget . . . amen.
These poems were written with the objective of raising much needed funds for the magnificent work carried out by the Hope for Ethiopia Team at Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle in Belfast. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to brightening up the lives of the children there. God Bless.

On the 19th February, in the Year Of Our Lord 2017. I raised my hand at a church service help at Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle Belfast. On that day my life saw enrichment I never believed possible. My character was that of a completely new person. Whereas I had minimal ambition, I had been given an eagerness to welcome the gift of each new day. Another 24 hours to savour the blessings he showered upon me. Did my life become less stressful?…..Not in the least, but I had been given the strength to deal with, and overcome with every situation I encountered. Where there was hate, now there was love, Where there was anger, now there dwelt peace, Where revenge festered, now was forgiveness. These traits would never have manifested in me had I not found my Saviour. But Better was yet to come. On the 9th August in the same year, I had, by far, the best experience of my life when I walked through the Waters Of Baptism and experienced the Joy Of Rebirth. The poems in this book are but a small token of thanks to the one who gave me Renewal, to the friends who encouraged me to record them and to the Holy Ghost, who supplied me with the missing words, when needed, to complete each poem. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them, and I pray that the Lord will come to you, as he came to me, when I needed him most……...Bobbie Greer.

BURDENS
Burdens weighing heavily, driven by despair,
Desperately in need of help, but finding no-one there.
I was in need of just a shoulder, yet no-one was around,
I clenched my hands and closed my eyes, and that’s when love came down.
You heard my plea to Heaven, and you answered straight away,
You took the cares that bothered me, and carried them away.
Contentment filled my life again, your love did me surround,
Before I finished up my prayer, that’s when love came down.
You’ve wrapped me in your wings of care, you’ve showered me with love,
I have a friend beyond compare, who watches from above,
And a smile appears upon my face, where once there dwelt a frown,
Now knowing when I call on you, your love keeps coming down . . . Amen
GUIDANCE
Through trials and tribulations Lord, you always brought me through,
Your hand was there to guide me, though I never even knew.
Long before I met you Lord, by your mercy I was kept,
Protecting in my waking hours, and guarding while I slept.
An unsaved soul just stumbling, from one day to the next,
With problems lining up ahead, and everyone you fixed.
Unconscious of you near to me, with every passing hour,
Oblivious of the love you have, and the kind of God you are.
But when I came to find you Lord, I found Life’s greatest prize,
The pieces all fell into place, the scales fell from my eyes,
I asked you to be part of me, and you unduly came,
That day my life would change for good, and never be the same.
Oh be it Lord that others, could find what I have found,
To set them free from shackles, so that their no longer bound,
To have them know the Son you sent, who’s blood has set us free,
Can bring about in them a change, like the change you brought to me . . . Amen
MINISTRY
No carpets lined the roads he trod, but still the people came,
He drew the poor, He drew the weak, the weary and the lame,
On dusty roads, in blinding heat, they came to hear his calls,
And gave their hearts to God above, in churches without walls.
He brought a simple message, to bring hope where there was none,
The promise of Eternal life, for each and everyone.
In morning light, by noon and night, as deepest darkness falls,
He spread his message near and far, in churches without walls.
There was no demarcation, there was no dividing line,
All who came were welcomed, in any place or time,
On mountain tops, by river banks, they listened one and all,
As Jesus spoke his words of love, in churches without walls . . . Amen
SEARCHING
Start your search for Jesus, for he’s not that hard to find,
You can feel his presence everywhere, in things of every kind,
In the clouds that’s slowly drifting by, In the petals of a flower,
In the love he’s sending down to you, no matter where you are.
He has laid a path in front of you, the one that you must take,
The one that leads you right to him, all others please forsake.
He will help you clear all hurdles, where others may have fell,
And somewhere deep within his plan, there’s a place for you as well.
Ask him for his guidance, he will open every lock,
Let him lead you ever on, the Shepherd of the flock.
He’ll be the strength to carry you, such love he has to give,
The day you ask him in your life, is the day you’ll start to live . . . Amen
NEED
In times of need we turn to you, and ask you for a touch,
The Rock on which we all rely, to whom we owe so much.
But don’t forget to give your thanks, To The Father and the Son,
For countless blessings they have gave, and those that’s yet to come.
It’s good to have a caring God, to help us as we strive,
It’s good to know we have a God, and he is still alive.
He guides us as we travel on, so we avoid Life’s snares,
He listens when we talk to him, he demonstrates he cares,
We need his intervention, when the going gets too tough,
We need the strength he sends to us, when we don’t have enough.
And yet he never fails us, when our problems we lay bare,
We only have to call on him, and he is ever there . . . Amen
HELP
Should Faith become diluted, or be suffering attack,
The Lord is there and waiting, to grant you what you lack.
He is ready, willing, able, to fend off any foe,
He will offer his protection, no matter where you go.
So place your total trust in him, he will not let you down,
In times of need, he’s strongest, this is what I’ve found.
Be true to your convictions, and never be afraid,
His help is there when needed, He’s always there to aid.
I know that while I trust in him, reward will be so great
I know some day I’ll be with him, and there awaits my fate
I freely offer up my heart, and everything I own,
For the passageway to Heaven, is through Jesus Christ alone . . . Amen
INDEBTED
Oh Jesus I love you, be my guiding star,
My words can’t describe all the things that you are.
You’ve taken this life and you’ve turned it around,
Removed all the shackles in which I was bound.
My future’s now bright reassured by your touch,
I’m indebted and grateful, I owe you so much,
My sins are forgiven, your blood set me free,
I’ll never forget just how much you gave me.
So I’ll sing of your praises, I’ll fall at your feet,
I’ll welcome the day when we both get to meet.
To look in the eyes of the one I love dear,
To hear your sweet voice and to have you so near.
To finally take up the crown that is mine,
To be covered completely in love so divine.
To meet with friends who have went on before.
My Jesus My Saviour, I ask for no more . . . Amen
TRUST
In all ends of this Earth today, let his word be heard.
The God who sent his Son to die, to show how much he cared.
Who left us with his Holy Book, his lasting legacy,
That shows we’re not condemned to die, but live eternally.
So many questions answered, so many
