Poems of Conviction: Volume 5

In February 2019, I travelled again to Ethiopia with the Hope for Ethiopia team attached to Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle in Belfast. We met once again with our brothers and sisters in Christ on our one-week visit. To say that our time spent there was blessed would be an understatement. During our time there, we had the opportunity to take part in worship and fellowship with them, but our hearts were again truly stolen by the children there. We took with us on the trip in excess of fifty suitcases filled with gifts for the children, simple and inexpensive gifts—a few T-shirts, underwear, a toy,and some sweets. Our reward was the tears of joy displayed on each little face. Perhaps it was a logistical nightmare in the packing and carriage of the suitcases, but in truth, the smiles on display made all the effort worthwhile.

We visited three separate locations—Kuriftu, where we have a school, church, and clinic with over four hundred children attending the Christ Centered School; Bobaguya, where we have a Bible class and kindergarten for around sixty children, allowing their parents to find work; and finally, Ambo, where we have really seen the hand of God moving among his people in a makeshift church the congregation has grown to over three thousand worshippers! Even better was the news that greeted us there. This congregation, despite their poverty, have managed to raise over seventy thousand dollars for the provision of foundations for the newly planned church there. Hearts were melted among us by all we experienced.

On my return, I resumed work on my poetry, invigorated by all that I experienced there. The format of Poems of Conviction: Volume 5 remains the same, and once again, all proceeds from the sales of these books will go directly to brightening up the lives of the children of Ethiopia. On the 19th February, in the Year Of Our Lord 2017. I raised my hand at a church service help at Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle Belfast. On that day my life saw enrichment I never believed possible. My character was that of a completely new person. Whereas I had minimal ambition, I had been given an eagerness to welcome the gift of each new day. Another 24 hours to savour the blessings he showered upon me. Did my life become less stressful?…..Not in the least, but I had been given the strength to deal with, and overcome with every situation I encountered. Where there was hate, now there was love, Where there was anger, now there dwelt peace, Where revenge festered, now was forgiveness. These traits would never have manifested in me had I not found my Saviour. But Better was yet to come. On the 9th August in the same year, I had, by far, the best experience of my life when I walked through the Waters Of Baptism and experienced the Joy Of Rebirth. The poems in this book are but a small token of thanks to the one who gave me Renewal, to the friends who encouraged me to record them and to the Holy Ghost, who supplied me with the missing words, when needed, to complete each poem. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them, and I pray that the Lord will come to you, as he came to me, when I needed him most……...Bobbie Greer.

She awoke that morning early, long before the Sun could rise,

Still weeping from the night before, teardrops in her eyes,

For they say that times a healer, but it didn’t feel that way.

With a Heart so badly broken, since they took The Lord away.

But time, it seemed, was standing still, though three days now had passed,

From what took place at Calvary, and Jesus breathed his last.

And still the pain of losing him, cut through her like a knife,

And part of her went with him, when they took away his life.

She couldn’t stomach breakfast, with a heart still filled with gloom,

So just like in the previous days, she travelled to his tomb.

But something now was different, as she looked on in dismay,

For the tomb was lying empty, and the stone was rolled away.

And as many others gathered, and stared in disbelief,

Feelings reignited that were hidden underneath.

Every heart was beating faster, comfort now replaced the pain,

For a Saviour resurrected, who would walk the Earth again……..Amen

PRAYER

Pray for those in sickness, pray for those in need,

Send your words to Jesus, that he might intercede,

Pray for those that hunger, and those in need of care,

Never underestimate, the Power of a Prayer.

Pray for end to conflict, offer prayer for Peace,

Pray for those in bondage, and Pray for their release.

Pray for those in danger, and for orphans everywhere.

Situations turn around, that’s the power of prayer.

Pray for those that know Him not, that they may hear his news,

Pray for all your enemies and those with different views.

Pray the Lord will touch your Heart, and grant you life anew,

If you will pray for me my friend, then I will pray for you………Amen.

SCALES OF JUDGEMENT

There will come a day not long from now, for the signs are very plain,

When the Son of God, in majesty, returns to Earth again.

For the Day of Judgement beckons, when Heavens court convenes,

When the Faith you hold determines, which way the balance leans.

So use me as your instrument, I await your next command,

For nothing’s unachievable, when guided by your hand.

And when I stand before your throne, and look into your eyes,

I pray the Faith I have in you, grants Heaven as my prize.

May the blood of Jesus cleanse me, and remove from me my shame,

May the way I chose to spend my life, bring Glory to your name,

May every word and action, bring me closer Lord to thee,

May the Holy Spirit grant me Grace and find a home in me………. Amen.

BACK

The way you turned this life around, how that amazes me,

For by your Grace I’m stronger, and your Son has set me free.

In the time before I knew you Lord, I’d shed a million tears,

With most of them preventable, throughout those wasted years.

But you became my anchor, as I sailed through stormy seas,

You raised me to new levels, when I was crawling on my knees.

You sent your Son to die for me, to free me from my sin,

I was a stranger in your sight, and still you took me in.

You gave me back my dignity, and set me back on track,

You watched me walking near the edge, and somehow drew me back,

My Earthly things I’ve left behind, without feeling any loss,

For I have a personal Saviour, and I focus on the cross……Amen.

SODOM & GOMORRAH

With resources all exhausted, and love in short supply,

I watch the World God gave to us, as it begins to die.

Where once we had a Garden, that God gave us as our own,

Our lack of Faith’s destroyed it, now the garden’s overgrown.

War has ravaged, greed destroyed, all that once was good,

We fail to honour God above, the way we know we should.

It’s only by his Mercy, that we’ve survived thus far,

And neglecting all he’s given us, has made us what we are.

Like Sodom and Gomorrah, there will be a price to pay,

The wrath of God will visit us, it’s coming any day.

So pray that fifty souls are found, to save us from our fate,

Ensure that you are one of them, before it is too late………Amen

SURRENDER

If you’ve ever faced rejection, then you know how bad it feels,

Like the burden that you carry, is a scar that never heals.

When you cannot find the courage, to overcome the pain,

Then send a prayer to Jesus, he will lift you up again,

If death has paid a visit, with a loved one took away,

And friends cannot console you, no matter what they say.

Send a prayer to Jesus, He will understand your loss

He will help to ease your burdens, if you lay them at the cross.

If misery surrounds you, and you feel all hope is gone

Up to the point, you feel you’ve lost, the will to carry on.

His Grace is all sufficient, and your empty heart he’ll fill,

With love that’s true, He’ll restore you, if you surrender to his will…….Amen.

FORGIVEN

Repentance isn’t weakness, it’s just admitting you were wrong,

For temptation takes advantage, in the moments we’re not strong.

We can hide our sins from others, be they large or small,

But the God we have is watching, and He’s sure to see them all.

So open up your heart to him, there is no need to hide,

Acknowledge when you get it wrong, he will not leave your side.

For his mercy grants forgiveness, that’s the way it’s always been,

His love is so much stronger, than transgressions he has seen.

For only one was perfect, only one was free from blame,

And no matter how we emulate, we’ll never be the same.

By his blood we’ve been forgiven, for he paid the debt we owe,

And his love for us is endless, despite the weakness that we show.

We owe so much to Jesus, for his journey to the cross,

For the life that bought forgiveness, but became his Fathers loss.

He was aware of imperfection, yet he died that we might live,

So never hide your failings, humbly ask and he’ll forgive……….Amen.

FOLLOW

On the road I’ll walk with Jesus, for I believe that he’s the way

To the Power and the Glory, that I will see one day,

When my time on Earth is over, I will listen for his call,

And confirm the promise that he gave, was truthful after all.

I only ask you touch my heart, until that time is here,

Increase the Faith I have in you, and let me know your near.

I cannot live without you, you’re the thing I most desire,

Lead me onward with yourself. and set this heart on fire.

It didn’t cost a penny, there was nothing I should pay,

For the precious blood you shed for me, that took my sins away.

You only asked I take the hand, that paid this sinners bill,

Just follow you, in all I do, and carry out your will……….Amen

VICTORY

Can you see it all unfolding, as the Bible said it would,

Foretold by Jesus Christ your Son, as only Jesus could.

He drew for us a picture, that has made it crystal clear,

As all the things he warned us of, are starting to appear.

So, Father hear this message, that I send in Jesus name,

This world that you created, has been clouded now by shame.

With evil taking over, from a Faith that once was strong,

When those who should know better, can’t distinguish right from wrong.

The prophets that you warned about, that speak with twisted tongue,

Corrupt our minds and prove to us, the End has now begun.

Let your Truth be our protection, against the gates of Hell

For you won a battle long ago and will win this one as well.

Darkness may surround us, but your light will shine again,

For Joy will conquer sorrow, and love will conquer pain.

And we will see your Glory, as we walk in streets of gold,

When victory rests with Heaven, just the way Our Saviour told…….Amen
