    DEDICATION

I would like to dedicate this book to God first, because without Him I would be nothing. Secondly, I want to dedicate this book to my husband Jim who has worked hard at two jobs so I could stay at home to take care of our kids. This book is also dedicated to my two sons, Sam and Cooper, who have taught me to be completely dependent on God. Last but not least, this book is also for all of my family and friends who have prayed for Sam and all of the doctors, nurses, surgeons, therapist, and medical transport teams that have worked with Sam.

    CHAPTER 1

Who is a child of God

I would like to take this opportunity to tell people about the love of God before I begin telling about Sam’s journey. It is important that everyone examines his or her own life to see where they stand with God.

    2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Repentance means deep sorrow or regret for past sin.

Many people think they are saved or a child of God, but they are not. That is not me being harsh or judgmental, but it is what God’s word says.

    Matthew 7:21-23(NIV)

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Why do you think people would think they are saved, but in reality are not? There are probably many reasons, but I believe that one reason is The Sinner’s Prayer. I don’t know how many times I have been in church and heard the pastor say if you want to be saved, bow your head and repeat after me. Then he goes into the sinner’s prayer that involves asking Jesus into your heart. This prayer is not found anywhere in the bible. After this prayer is said, we are usually told that we are now saved and will be going to heaven. There has been no change in our heart and we go about living the way we always have. That is why the world can’t tell the difference between so called Christians and non-Christians.

The bible teaches that we know who God’s children are by the fruit they produce.

    Galatians 5:19-26 (NIV)

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

    1 John 3:10

This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

Please do not be confused and think this is saying we are saved by our works. We do good works because we love God and want to please him. Doing good works for someone does not make you love them. However, if you love someone, you will naturally want to do good works for them.

We are saved because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. He died for our sins so we would not have to. God is willing to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask…

    Luke 11:11-13 (NIV)

Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Maybe this is where ask Jesus into your heart comes from, but I don’t know. What I do know is that this verse says we can ask God for his Holy Spirit and He will give it to us. The bible also teaches us that we are all in need of a Savior…

    Romans 3:10-12 (NIV)

"As it is written: ‘There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.
