About this ebook

To My Ex,

. . . I am grateful to you as I am grateful for scars. They are a part of me, and they are my compass. Without them, I would not know which direction to go. Id be lost. You are part of my past and my present and my future. You are part of my limbs, moving forward, walking away . . .

Letters to Our Lovers is an insightful, entertaining, and utterly relatable collection of letters written to our families, friends, the inner and outer self, and to the various types of romantic relationships many of us experience.

    Dear Reader,

The term, lover is often used to describe one very specific type of relationship, namely a romantic one, but to me, the term can describe any relationship that has an impact on our lives.

This book is a compilation of letters written not to specific people per se, but rather to the various types of relationships that many of us experience – such as the relationship with the one that is almost right, the one that seems like the right person at the wrong time, the one we betrayed, the one that betrayed us. These significant relationships also include those with our friends, our pets, and the various parts of ourselves.

One of these relationships is the one between us, you and me, the reader and the writer. The written word is a vulnerable and hopeful offering, a question posed to the reader of, maybe you feel this too? And when you do, whether you feel it personally or vicariously, a bridge is built between us. We are connected. And maybe we can get through some of this together.

In my work as a clinical social worker, I often encourage my clients to write letters - sometimes to other people, to themselves, or to the issue itself. One very difficult day, feeling hurt and pissed and confused, I decided to take my own advice and wrote, "Dear Right Person, Wrong
