About this ebook

Most of the poems Ive written are based on my own memories and experiences as a child growing up, the games we played, and the adventures we had.

Through encouragement from my family and friends, what started as a hobby led me to compile this book. I thank them all.

I hope that, by reading this book, some of your childhood memories come back and leave you with a smile on your face.

    About the Author

    1

By the side of the river, a community grew

I don’t believe back then, they could have knew

From a few cottages, maybe an Inn

What we call Custom House would begin

The docks were built, the ships came

Our little part of London would never be the same

Houses were built for the dockers to live

For many, all there working lives they would give

So many thought work in the docks would never end

But sadly to Tilbury, the container ships there’d send,

In our hearts and memories, the docks we’ll always remember

In particular, one night, on the last day of December

At midnight, from the ships, the sirens and horns would start

The sound, the feeling of happiness, forever in my heart

    2

Another bank holiday and I think it’s cold

Or is it just that I’m getting old

When we were kids it was sunny and hot

Am I wrong? Or am I not

Bank holidays meant an extra day of school

    Over the lido, dip
