    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I would like to thank Bishop T. D. Jakes of The Potter’s House, Dallas, Texas; Bishop Carlton Brown of Bethel Gospel Assembly, Harlem, New York and Pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church, Houston, Texas; for sharing their spiritual and motivational sermons.

Listening to some of these sermons has inspired me to write a number of the works which are included in this book of poetry.

I pray that you enjoy reading these poems and can find comfort from them.

    GOD’S RESUME

Have you ever sat down to think of what He has done?

If we paid attention, we’d have to admit that we’re the selfish ones

Let’s go down memory lane of the troubles of your past

How you would begin to panic, thinking your life wouldn’t last

Or those nights when you felt sick as all hell

Who did you call on when all you could do is yell?

What about those times that Con Ed threatened to kill your lights?

Who stepped in and told Con Ed not tonight?

Or when you fell on hard times with nothing to eat

Who lifted your hunger and placed you back on your feet?

Or when that certain love of your life deeply hurt you

Whose shoulder was there to catch your tears and see you through?

No matter the problem, no matter your sorrow

He only asked for your faith as He blessed your tomorrow

Consider all that He’s done while we ignored all His laws

He gave His only son, despite all our flaws

So if you still don’t think He deserves your praise today

Like anyone applying for a job; take time and review God’s resume

    A CERTIFIED CHECK

The Lord wrote a check for you and for me

It was drawn by heaven, certified by Thee

When He gave you His spirit, He gave you His trust

So why, when He asks for our faith, do we give such a fuss?

People show lack of faith, yet He still blessed us all

Yet only when we need, is when His name is truly called

Now, from birth, we were certified like a check in hand

Only, we listen to each other, something I’ll never understand

We always take notice of those who stand out loud

As we watch with criticism, they seem to be proud

Now when we learn to know the Lord, we feel Him inside

Those who walk tall with a gleam they cannot hide

As we notice those people that take pride in their walk

If you ask them how they feel, it’s their smile that will talk

With their shoulders up straight and their chest stuck out

You ask how I can learn to have that pride that you shout

That stranger will tell you why his life is not a wreck

It’s because the Lord gave His life a certified check

    BREATHE ON US

Today we visited the House of trust

We sang and prayed for the Lord to breathe on us

The Spirit was present in the church today

While we sang out loud, we continued to pray

When the Spirit flowed, there was little fuss

As we continued to ask the Lord to breathe on us

Now don’t get me wrong, we had to conceive

As people gave praise, people began to believe

Some felt the Spirit lift their fears

While others sat and wondered why their eyes grew tears

But while all this happened, nobody could fuss

As the House asked the Lord to breathe on us

We asked Him to relieve all our pains

Breathe Your blessings as we feel Your rain

We asked Him to chase whatever was wrong

The Spirit continued to show Its presence strong

So Lord, thank You, because Your blessings are a must

As we pray for You to breathe on us

    THE DEAL

As I sat in church pondering what is real

The bishop spoke out about completing the deal

He spoke of how people come to church to ask for God’s grace

Yet the life they live shows they lie to Gods face.

Why do some people come to sing and give Him praise

When they only return to their own wicked ways?

You can walk the walk; you can smile like you care

Who do you think you’re fooling, as the Lord pulled up a chair

Now you came to My house to give your
