I would like to begin by thanking you all for sacrificing your time and patience to to read what I have to say today. Today, we will examine how just by having a positive attitude can help guide us to the road of success.
(A.) Today Is A Gift
Why Should We Consider Today to Be a Gift?
Let me begin with one phrase initially stated by (Eleanor Roosevelt) that is sure to hold a special meaning for all of us: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift.
Let’s break this down: Yesterday is history.
—What has happened cannot be changed; therefore, there isn’t any need to put much emphasis on it. Tomorrow is a mystery.
—Nobody can predict with 100 percent guarantee that a certain result will come true tomorrow. Even though we can predict what is likely to happen in any extended time in the future, we can never say for certain that it will happen. Today is a gift.
—Therefore, we refer to it as the present. Let’s examine this line very carefully. Right now, at this very moment, we are alive, we are healthy, we have reason to smile, and we anticipate to have a bright future. On the other hand, there are those who are dying, there are those who are crying, there are those who are starving, and there are those who would give anything to be in our place. We should be thankful for what we have instead of wasting our time grieving over what we don’t have.
Here is an example that will better explain what I am talking about: Imagine sitting in front of a television set, watching a DVR. We have a remote control and we can rewind, pause, fast-forward, and even stop the DVR at your favorite parts. Now imagine sitting in front of a television set that does not have a DVR. We cannot rewind what we missed, so the past is history. We cannot predict what commercials we are going to see, so tomorrow is a mystery. But we are enjoying the show right now, so today is a gift. Even if we change the channel, the conclusions that are destined to occur will occur. Therefore, there isn’t any changing the results that destiny has in store for us. Whatever these results may be, we have to decide that whatever life throws our way, we are going to be accepting of it because if we get angry, sad, worried, frustrated, or unhappy in any way, we are only going to hurt ourselves.
So life is like a television show and not a DVR movie because in real life, we cannot rewind, pause, fast-forward, or stop what is happening. But we can use the DVR example to better prepare ourselves for what is likely to happen based on circumstances, past experiences, and our interactions with others. Therefore, when the television set and the DVR work hand in hand, in other words, when we simultaneously use our minds, good judgments, and imaginations to anticipate what is likely to happen and we accept the results that destiny has in store for us, we can attain the best results because we are better prepared than we would be if we only used one of these two perspectives.
Let me give you a live and very powerful example of what I mean. When I was six I lost my father in a car accident, which also had a major impact on me. I lost control of the left extremities of my body. As a result,I could be sitting in a corner, wondering why all this had to happen to me, instead I realized that while in taking away my abilities, (God) blessed me with the power to inspire others through my positive attitude. I put this power to
