    CHAPTER 1

    Introduction to A Farewell to 1984

    "A Farewell to 1984" is the first poem I wrote in a series of poetry from the heart. It was inspired by my struggles and achievements working toward my Associate Degree while attending community college. In the beginning of many trials and tribulations I experienced financial problems, an identity crisis and self esteem issues. I found it difficult to concentrate one hundred percent on my studies because when I decided to return to school at thirty-five I was working, raising a son and head of household. During that time I was very needy and fell in love with one of my professors, so I thought. My emotions were all over the place.
