"Where did you say you live?"

The driver cast a sideways glance toward the young woman in the passenger seat, taking in the sight of her rain-soaked white dress and the intricate French twist of her auburn hair with a thoughtful frown. She peeked back at him from under her dripping bangs without turning her head, and then pointed down the winding road, into the nightbound forest.
