She’d waited out the first few minutes, and then silently counted through the next ten, but by the time she felt his hands emerge from the darkness to touch her sides and draw slow, meaningless spirals up and down her back, Rina couldn’t say how long she’d been dangling from her waist and arms. Not long enough to drift asleep, at least she didn't think so. She couldn't remember a single moment that hadn't been flooded with dreadful anticipation, the strain of her eyes trying to peer through the black silk or velvet wrapped across them – a necktie, she guessed – into the half-lit chamber beyond. She’d waited until the waiting itself became a kind of torture, a dreadful prelude to the hours that lay ahead. And finally, just when she’d started to thrash and scream with panic, he’d touched her, as if he’d been waiting for just that moment.
