Meditation is a practice which is popular in the modern world and in the commercial market for the well-being the mind and body. In this handbook, we shall explore the world of mindfulness meditation and understand how important it is to get the instruction right.

Many years ago, before I picked up meditation formally, I was enthralled by this mystical practice because the commercial world seemed to be promoting it as a way for us to transcend beyond our physical body and mind. Although I was interested in it, I never had the opportunity to learn it formally. It was through an acquaintance that I got the chance to try it out. I managed to learn it from some teachers and an online course eventually. What I realized was that although meditation is supposed to be simple, there are many complicated instructions in the market. Hence, I am writing this book to help you to learn and understand meditation better. I hope that you will enjoy this book and this book will help you to improve your practice if you are already an avid meditator.

What is meditation? It may mean different things to different people, one common definition that most people may agree on is that it is a process whereby you focus your intention purposefully and stay within that moment, and this process ought to clear your mind and relax your whole body. This process also ought to heighten your awareness of self and this universe.
If we broaden the definition, there are many types of activities that may induce mindful awareness of self and this universe; some activities are yoga, martial arts and walking.
Some people may conjure the image of a yogi meditating in a cave, at the top of a mountain or in some forest when meditation is brought up. Nowadays, we often see this word popping up in books, magazines, etc. — it is now seen as the ideal solution for countering stress — and you may conjure the image of some hippy people practising meditation and yoga during retreats.
Meditation is a tool for connecting ourselves to our inner world and this world; it is good for relaxing our mind and body.
