    INTRODUCTION

Dark psychology is the art and science of manipulation and mind control. While psychology is the study of human behavior and is central to our thoughts, actions, and interactions, the term dark psychology is the phenomenon whereby people use motivational, persuasive, manipulative, and coercive tactics to get what they want.

None of us want to be a victim of manipulation, but it happens quite often. We may not be subject to someone specifically in the Dark Triad, but ordinary people like you and I face dark psychology tactics daily.

These tactics are often found in commercials, internet advertisements, sales techniques, and even our manager's behaviors. If you have children (especially teenagers), they experimented with these tactics as their children experiment with behaviors to get what they want and seek autonomy. The people you trust and often love to use covert manipulation and dark persuasion. These are some of the tactics most used by ordinary people.

Flood of love: compliments, affection, or anointing someone to make a request

To lie: exaggeration, falsehoods, partial truths, false stories

Denial of love: Avoid attention and affection

The retreat: Avoid the person or give them a silent treatment

Choice restriction: Give certain choice options that distract from the choice you do not want someone to make.

Reverse psychology: Telling a person something or doing something to motivate them to do the opposite is really what you want.

Semantic manipulation- Use of words that are supposed to have a common or mutual definition, but the manipulator then tells you that you have a different definition and understanding in conversation. Words are powerful and important.

While some people who use these shady tactics know exactly what they are doing and intend to manipulate you to get what they want, others use shady and unethical tactics without being fully aware of it. Many of these people learned tactics from their parents during childhood. Others learned the tactics in adolescence or adulthood by chance. They used a manipulation tactic unintentionally, and it worked. They got what they wanted. Therefore, they continue to use tactics that help them get away with it.

In some cases, people are trained to use these tactics. Training programs that teach dark and unethical psychology and persuasion tactics are often sales or marketing programs. Many of these programs use shady tactics to create a brand or sell a product for the sole purpose of serving themselves or their business, not the customer. Unfortunately, many of these training programs convince people that using these tactics is okay and benefits the buyer. Because, of course, their lives will be so much better when they buy the product or service.

Who uses dark psychology and manipulation tactics?

HERE IS A LIST OF PEOPLE who seem to use these tactics the most.

Narcissists: People who are truly narcissistic (who meet the clinical diagnosis) have an inflated sense of self-worth. They need others to validate their belief in being superior. They dream of being admired and adored. They use dark psychology, manipulation, and unethical persuasion to keep themselves on a pedestal before others.

Sociopaths: People who are truly sociopaths (who meet the clinical diagnosis) are often charming, intelligent but impulsive. Due to a lack of emotionality and ability to feel remorse, they use shady tactics to build a superficial relationship and then take advantage of people.

Lawyers: Some attorneys are so intensely focused on winning their case that they resort to using dark persuasion tactics to get the result they want.

Politicians: Some politicians use dark psychological tactics and shady persuasion tactics to convince people that they are right and get votes.

Sales staff Many salespeople are so focused on making a sale that they use shady tactics to motivate and persuade someone to buy their product.

Leaders, Some leaders use shady tactics to get compliance, increased effort, or better performance from their subordinates.

Public speakers: Some speakers use shady tactics to increase the audience's emotional state, knowing that this leads to selling more products.

Selfish people: It can be anyone who has their agenda before others. They will use tactics to meet their own needs first, even at someone else's expense. They do not care about win-lose results.

Some of these people fully admit that they use these practices frequently or that their organizations require them to use shady practices as part of their business processes for acquiring and keeping customers.

This is truly unfortunate, and while it leads to short-term sales and revenue, it will ultimately lead to mistrust, poor business practices, poor employee loyalty, and in the long run, less successful business results.

To differentiate between motivational and persuasive tactics that are obscure and ethical, it is important to assess your intention. First, we must ask ourselves if the tactics we are using are intended to help the other person. It is fine that the intention is also to help you, but you can easily fall into shady and unethical practices if it is solely for your benefit.

Having a win-win or mutually beneficial outcome should be the goal. However, you must be honest with yourself and believe that the other person will benefit. An example of this is a salesperson who believes that everyone will benefit from their product and life will be much better for the customer because of the purchase. A salesperson with this mindset can easily slip into using shady tactics to move the person to buy and using a the end justifies the means mindset. This opens the person to any tactics to get the sale.

Do you want to be truly successful in your leadership, relationships, parenting, work, and other areas of life? Then take stock to determine your current motivational and persuasion tactics. Getting it right leads to long-term credibility and influence. Getting it wrong (going dark) leads to poor character, broken relationships, and long-term failure because people eventually see through the darkness and realize their intention.

NLP is the practice of understanding how people organize their thoughts, feelings, language, and behavior to produce their results. NLP provides people with a methodology to model the outstanding performances achieved by geniuses and leaders in their field. NLP is also used for personal development and business success.

A key element of NLP is that we form our unique internal mental maps of the world as a product of how we filter and perceive information absorbed through our five senses from the world around us.

Everyone has established their own unique mental filtering system to process the millions of bits of data absorbed through the senses. Our first mental map of the world is made up of internal images, sounds, tactile awareness, internal sensations, tastes, and smells formed due to the neurological filtering process. The first mind map is called First Access in NLP.

We then assign personal meaning to the information that is received from the outside world. We form our second mind map by assigning language to internal images, sounds and feelings, tastes, and smells, thus forming everyday conscious awareness. The second mind map is called a Linguistic Map (sometimes known as a Linguistic Representation).

The behavioral response occurs because of neurological filtering processes and the subsequent linguistic map.

NLP modeling is the art of making explicit the set of differences present in someone excellent at a certain activity compared to someone
