Author

Nigel Smith

Nigel Smith has been a journalist, busker, TV comedy producer and scriptwriter, winning an award for his BBC 4 radio comedy, VENT. More importantly, he has been – and still is – an embarrassing Dad. Much like Nathalia Buttface, his three children are continually mortified by his ill-advised trousers, comedic hats, low-quality jokes, poorly chosen motor vehicles, unique sense of direction and unfortunate ukulele playing.

    DEDICATION

My husband and I want to dedicate this marriage devotional first to our two grown children, Michael Weeks and Alexandria Smith. To both our parents for their examples of what a lasting, loving marriage looks like. To our dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Pastor Tylia, and Elder Marcelto Cooks for letting us know that it is ok to date each other even after the marriage. Thank you to our Founding Pastor and Founding First Lady, Pastor Coleman and Pastor Pat, for their examples of a godly marriage. We also like to thank our Lead Pastor and First Lady, Pastor Carlos and Lady Monica, for their example of a godly married couple.

    ABOUT THE AUTHORS

    INTRODUCTION

God intended for marriage to be the most intimate, fulfilling relationship that two people can experience. His Word describes marriage as a man and woman uniting to become one flesh. It took years for my husband Nigel and I to fully grasp God’s perfect plan for marriage. Now that we have a greater understanding, our goal is to share it with you…

We hope that you will be encouraged to read this devotional daily; prayerfully together that you will experience God’s perfect plan for your marriage through practical everyday things that you do with your spouse. It will not happen all at once, but rest assured that it will happen for you. With patience and God on your side, you will have a better marriage.

This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

    — Genesis 2:23–24

The exchange of rings in a marriage ceremony represents an endless circle. A woman or man who has a spouse is bound together by a covenant as long as that spouse lives. But if one of them passes, the other is free to marry. Therefore, the phrase in the marriage vows that states: To death
