    Introduction

"Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy."

    ~ Norman Vincent Peale

The quote above embodies all the things that confidence is, and self-confidence should be. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines confidence in a number of ways:

Being aware of your own power and being able to rely on your own circumstances.

Being certain of yourself and being able to trust in yourself.

The root word comes from the Latin word for confidential, which means to trust in oneself (Merriam-Webster, 2020).

One thing is certain when it comes to self-confidence, and that is we’ve all experienced days when our self-confidence has either taken a knock or it seems to have left us completely. During these times we find ourselves second-guessing almost every move or decision we make. We find it hard to trust that we’re making the right decisions, behaving in the right way, or doing what’s best for us and possibly those around us.

If you’re currently reading this book right now, chances are you have or possibly still battle with self-confidence. Maybe you have low self-esteem because you’ve been conditioned to think less of yourself than you should. I’m here to tell you that it is possible to build a stronger self-confident personality, along with high self-esteem, which will ultimately result in a more comfortable, peaceful, and enjoyable life.

The whole purpose of It’s All About Self-confidence and Self-esteem the Way to a Better Life!: How to be More Confident and Start Thinking Positive, Improve Your Self-esteem, Improve Your Focus, Positive Self Talk, Mindfulness and Meditation. Overcome Fear, Stress and Anxiety. Manage Your Emotions is to help you navigate and find your way past things that may have been holding you back up until this point in your life.

Gaining confidence can lead to a life that is full and satisfying. Yes, there are bound to be setbacks and failures along the way, but that’s okay. It’s not these setbacks or failures that define us—instead, it’s how we choose to handle them and whether we decide to learn from them or not.

Throughout this book and the chapters that follow we’re going to explore ways to develop a positive attitude toward life’s endeavors. This will result in a life that’s peaceful and happy, which is possibly one of the ultimate goals we all have. The way we're going to do this is by:

    Discovering ways to overcome negativity.

Choosing to do the right thing whenever you’re faced with a decision.

Incorporating positive lifestyle choices and developing habits to help you achieve these things. Some of these include taking care of your body, mind, and spirit.

Learning how to stand up for yourself while not offending those around you.

Being able to follow through on commitments you make with others. This is learning to keep promises that you make to those around you whether they happen to be close family and friends, or work colleagues and associates.

You can gain loads of confidence as you set and achieve goals for yourself. The secret to success here lies in being able to complete these, no matter how small or insignificant each of these may be.

It’s about learning to love yourself without having to compare yourself to those around you. This can be way more difficult to do than you initially think.

This book is for anyone who needs to boost their confidence levels. You may be thinking that it’s too late for you to get there because you’re too old or too set in your ways. I’m here to tell you that there’s no such thing as ever being too old to gain self-esteem and build self-confidence.

This book is designed to help you set goals for yourself through positive thinking without being sabotaged by that negative inner voice that so often tells us that we can’t. It’s time to learn to ignore that inner voice for good. By setting smaller, achievable goals to start with, you can begin to build momentum toward achieving those larger goals.

A large part of gaining self-confidence and self-esteem is accepting responsibility for yourself, your choices, and your actions.

Believe in yourself that it’s not only possible for you to change, but you can change for the better.

It’s so much easier to track the changes you’ve been able to make successfully if you find ways to monitor your progress. Keeping some accurate records will help you look back on your journey someday and realize how far you’ve come.

Making changes in your life can be challenging, especially if you happen to be a people pleaser. One of the key lessons to be learned is not to care what others think of you. It should be all about you choosing to do way more of what makes you genuinely happy.

In It’s All About Self-confidence and Self-esteem the Way to a Better Life!: How to be More Confident and Start Thinking Positive, Improve Your Self-esteem, Improve Your Focus, Positive Self Talk, Mindfulness and Meditation. Overcome Fear, Stress and Anxiety. Manage Your Emotions, the main takeaway is for you to be able to feel confident in yourself in any situation.

    Discover ways to:

Be more confident to like yourself more.

Be more confident with those you love, and those you work with. This will help you strengthen relationships around you.

Completing tasks allows us to build more confidence and take our self-esteem to the next level.

Having multiple goals that you’re trying to achieve simultaneously is like trying to juggle too many balls in the air at once and not having the skills of a juggler. It goes without saying that the chances of being able to keep each of these airborne at the same time is highly unlikely. This can leave us feeling disappointed in ourselves, which is the complete opposite effect of what we’re trying to achieve.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you. At the age of 64, I came to a
