Fountain of Happiness - Teamika J.
CHAPTER 1:
Let’s Get Happy...
L
iving in the 21st century has some amazing perks which otherwise we wouldn’t have enjoyed if we weren’t living in this century. Better facilities upgraded technologies and above all eradicating the meaning of impossible from our minds. Anything and everything are possible, impossibility is barely the concept of our mind.
I have seen numerous people around me who are constantly hustling, which is a good thing, I am not against that. But, I am sure you will also agree with me when I say that people these days are so caught up in their daily mechanical life that they forget to give time to the most important person in their lives, i.e. none other but himself. People are living like robots. Burning out themselves to chase for the commodities and lifestyle which they think will bring them comfort and would be the reason for their joy. If that is how it worked then I don’t think the percentage of unhappy people would be quite a lot these days. Don’t trust me? Well, according to the survey conducted in the USA, 13% of people are unhappy. Surprising isn’t it? An era where we see glamourous pictures on the internet, people dressed up in their finest attire, partying, having a remarkable time with their friends, and the most important thing, smiling as if they are genuinely happy. If all these people are as happy as the look then what about the percentage of unhappy people?
It is indeed a bitter reality that in this digitally and technologically equipped era what we care about is how happy we seem on Instagram rather than in our daily lives. We should have made it our top priority to be happy rather than showing to be happy. Trust me being happy is not something tough, it is something which lies within you.
But, wait... what actually is happiness? Why is important to be happy?
Don’t worry I am not going to quote the definition of the term happy or happiness, because we all are very aware of it. Even a toddler knows what happiness is. So, stop for a moment here, and ask yourself what is happiness...? Your mind will pop up with words like:
Feeling good
Worthy
Enjoyment
Positive vibes
Contentment
Yes...this is what happiness is. The euphoric feeling when the world around you seems just perfect. The moment you never want to end. Being happy is something that we all want. Have you ever met a person who wishes to be unhappy? Perhaps not, because that’s not how we humans are designed. To be happy and have happiness revolving around us.
Happiness depends upon ourselves.
(Aristotle)
Many philosophers have been on a quest to find out what makes people happy, but happiness is subjective. One person might be happy with a thing and on the other hand, some other person would be disappointed or become sad by that same thing. But, once a person finds that thing which gives him or her the feeling of pleasure, they must learn how to use that energy to formulate their FOUNTAIN OF HAPPINESS (FOH). This is what I will be discussing in my book. How to let your happiness fuel you up. In the next chapters, I have compiled numerous methods to be happy. Don’t worry it is not some uphill task to achieve happiness, rather I have shared my experiences and observations in this regard.
Another exercise for you here... Ask yourself "What makes me happy? make a list in your mind about the things that instantly make you happy and full of positive energy. Now, repeat them again in your mind and think
Are these difficult to do? Is it a lot of effort to be happy?" I am sure the answers are clear, a simple no.
I too, am a simple person like you. I have not acquired any degree in "how to be happy?" or mastered the art of happiness. No, I have not. Because happiness is something that cannot be taught. It’s more of an art than science. People might give you tips or help you in this regard, but nobody can teach you how to be happy if you are not willing for your soul to taste the sweetness of happiness.
I was born in 1977 into a world of light and understanding. My parents lived on Simpson Street in Madisonville Cincinnati, OH. It was a street of hope and opportunity, where people with different professions resided such as judges, nurses, entrepreneurs, and everyday working people lived their life for the enjoyment of their achievement. By the tender age of six, I understood that I can make my own self happy according to what I felt would complete me at that moment. At this prime age, I also realized that if I allowed, people around
