Idribbled sun cream across my flat stomach, stroked it across my bare tits and lay back to feel the scorching sun bronze me just a little more. I was bored. The rest of the family were away, Daddy on business in Panama, Mummy with her boyfriend on a Spanish road trip in his ancient classic Jaguar, and my annoying little brother James still at school. He would be home next week for Summer break, and even though I would not tell him, it would be nice not to be alone. I had a full month off work. My accountancy firm was shifting across the city. The house was too big for just me to rattle around in. At first, I’d held the usual parties, but even they got boring and too many of the girls thought it was an excuse to get high. I just didn’t need the hassle or the drugs. If they wanted to screw up their bodies and end up having to get nose jobs to fix the damage, that was their thing, not mine. Whilst I enjoyed the sun on my skin and I plugged in my ear-pods to listen to some old school Motown tracks. I wouldn’t admit it to daddy, but he had good taste in music, and I often listened to his playlist instead of my own. I must have dozed off, but woke up to a cool breeze, looked up and saw a small cloud obscuring the high sun. Time for a dip in the pool. The one thing, well there are quite a few things, I love about living here is the enormous pool, no neighbours and swimming naked. A peacock across the lawns strutted his fancy feathers and called to his girls. As I sat up, then walked over to the poolside, I heard daddy’s voice in my head warning me to shower before diving in. I laughed at the idea of not doing as he said. I dived in, swam the length of the pool underwater, and came up slightly breathless at the far end of the pool. The cool water was refreshing, my hair now slicked back and sticking to my back. I swam to the centre of the pool and grabbed the inflatable sun lounger, jumped and rolled on, and lay butt-naked in the sun. I felt the heat as the sun popped back from behind the solo cloud. The next thing I knew, I was underwater. I gulped in a mouthful of pool water. Shock and fear made my heart race. I felt powerful hands on my waist and someone pushing me back up to the surface. What the fuck just happened? I spluttered, grabbed at the inflatable, pushed my hair out of my eyes, and looked around. No one was there. Was I losing the plot? Maybe dreaming? I heard a man laugh and spun around.

‘Hey Charlie, thought I’d pop by and keep you company.’

My daddy’s best friend was sitting on the side of the pool, laughing at me. I got my breath back and swore at him. He was a pain in the ass at the best of times. He’d never actually touched me before, and I have to admit, his strength had been a surprise.

‘It’s Charlotte, you idiot. You nearly gave me a heart attack, and anyway, how did you get in?’

‘The gardener opened the gates. We go way back. I promised your dad I’d check up on you.’
