THE ART TEACHER AND THE STUDENT - PART ONE

He watched as she stood on the ladder, her brush extended to the top of the vast wall sized canvas.

From his position at the bottom of the ladder, he could see her butt tightly outlined in dark canvas. He loved that butt.

She stretched. The overalls slid between her ass cheeks, accentuated her pear shape. Her waist hidden by the baggy clothes but so clearly defined in his mind. She stepped down again. He watched the soles of her bare feet squash gently on each tread of the ladder.

He stepped back to allow her to step down to the ground safely. Her scent wafted past him in a wave of patchouli, lemon, and jasmine. She always told him he had it wrong. It was neroli, vanilla and amber. He didn’t care, he just knew it as the scent of her. The only scent he loved more was of her skin when they lay together after sex.

He’d got the job in her studio as a student. At twenty-five, he’d been the oldest one in class, still half her age.

Much to his family’s disgust, he’d finally had the guts to leave his well paid, but dirty, job as a plumber and take up art as a profession. He said profession, but he earned little at it, at the start.

When she first lectured the class, she didn’t speak directly to anyone. A living legend in her field, she didn’t need to. Not arrogance, just an intolerance for time wasting. She was there to teach, so that’s what she did.

Over the weeks, her knowledge seeped into the entire class’s subconscious. A couple of students left, realising art wasn’t for them. One or two changed to use different media, found their joy in other classes. But he stayed. The class soon a small but dedicated, passionate group who loved and lived art.

A few moved into a local house-share together. He just missed out. If he was to succeed, he had to dedicate the next few years to his art, so he found a nearby tiny attic room in a house full of science students. He soon piled high it with art supplies and scribblings.

He stayed late at class and hired a locker to store his canvases. Far from ideal, but it allowed him access to his art 24/7. It took a few months, but the class gained her trust. She spoke to them in intimate whispers or shockingly loud shouts of unrestrained passion and motivation. Whispers accompanied emotional moments of discovery, shouts the moments when a foolish swipe of a brush or a colour choice upset her.
