Letting Go
Letting go means to realize that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.

he day I left was a hot summer day in Texas. My husband and myself had been invited to a party with friends and family. It started as one of those days that had left an uneasy feeling in my stomach wondering if I should even go with him to the party or not go at all. In the past, most parties we attended always ended in a fight. I had concluded that it was better for us to not go out anymore to avoid fighting. He would either drink too much or think that I was flirting with someone. Then the argument continued over him giving me the keys to drive because he was drunk, however, that day was different. It had been a while since we went out and I thought maybe we should try one more time. That day the weather was bad and raining pretty steadily. Although, I ignored my uncertainty and I agreed to go along, plus my son’s God-parents were going to be there and it usually meant he drank less.
As the day progressed, he drank not excessively but too much to drive home safely. We had agreed that I would drive us home if he wanted to drink. I was ok with him drinking as long as he was not driving. My son was thirteen months old and the last thing I wanted was to ride home with a drunk driver. There had been several other instances where he almost lost control of the truck driving while intoxicated. A couple of weeks before we moved in together, he was in a car accident where he had flipped and totaled his car. But now, instead of just us, I had to consider my child’s safety. He was the one person I loved the most, and as a parent, he was my responsibility. As usual, my husband did not consider our safety when he had been drinking.
My stress level rose when it was time to leave, but since I had the keys that day, I assumed the problem would be avoided. He walked up to the truck and put the car seat in the backseat while I went over to the driver's side.
Of course, he took the keys from my hand, and said, I’m driving as always.
The reception hall had large full-length windows and they were all open. So, the guests could see us by the truck. I went around as if I was getting in the passenger side but instead as quick as I could I got Angel out of the car seat and walked as fast as I could back to the reception. The last thing I wanted was to fight about the keys, in front of all the guests. Yet, getting in the truck with him driving terrified
