    Chapter One:

    Letting Go

Letting go means to realize that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.-Steve Maraboli

he day I left was a hot summer day in Texas. My husband and myself had been invited to a party with friends and family. It started as one of those days that had left an uneasy feeling in my stomach wondering if I should even go with him to the party or not go at all. In the past, most parties we attended always ended in a fight. I had concluded that it was better for us to not go out anymore to avoid fighting. He would either drink too much or think that I was flirting with someone. Then the argument continued over him giving me the keys to drive because he was drunk, however, that day was different. It had been a while since we went out and I thought maybe we should try one more time. That day the weather was bad and raining pretty steadily. He was the one person I loved the most, and as a parent, he was my responsibility. As usual, my husband did not consider our safety when he had been drinking.

My stress level rose when it was time to leave, but since I had the keys that day, I assumed the problem would be avoided. He walked up to the truck and put the car seat in the backseat while I went over to the driver's side.

Of course, he took the keys from my hand, and said, I’m driving as always.

The reception hall had large full-length windows and they were all open. So, the guests could see us by the truck. I went around as if I was getting in the passenger side but instead as quick as I could I got Angel out of the car seat and walked as fast as I could back to the reception. The last thing I wanted was to fight about the keys, in front of all the guests. Yet, getting in the truck with him driving terrified
