Waiting on When - Gracie Kay

    PROLOGUE

Let me begin by setting the stage. Many of you know a part of my story from reading my first book, The Breaking and Making of Me. When I first began this book, I was separated from my husband of seventeen years. I was heartbroken, praying with a spirit of desperation, and waiting for God to perform a miracle. I wanted so badly for Him to restore that which was lost unto me. During this trial, He taught me the lessons in this book. He showed me how to wait on Him.

    FOREWORD

I sat cross-legged in my prayer closet with my Bible open in front of me and tears flowing down my face. You see, I was in the middle of a pity party and having a serious discussion with the Lord. My heart was broken and raw. I desperately wanted and needed the Lord to work a miracle.

In a spirit of desperation, I was yelling out to the Lord. If I yelled loud enough, I thought, God would certainly hear me. Luckily no one was home, or they would have thought Mama had lost all her marbles. After a while, my tears were spent and my head was pounding, so I sat and waited and waited and waited.

How many of you have found yourselves in this very place? Waiting on when…waiting on when God will answer your prayer. Waiting for the day when physical healing will come. Waiting on a relationship or a marriage to be redeemed and restored. Waiting on a prodigal child to come home. Waiting for whatever trial you are going through to come to an end.

It was during one of my heart-to-heart discussions with the Lord that He gave me these words. I hope the words will be an encouragement to all of you like they were to me. Waiting is HARD. Waiting HURTS. Waiting is HEARTBREAKING. But, if we wait the right way, the trial we are facing will be a little easier. He will make you stronger than you ever imagined. HE will give you a comfort and peace that you never thought possible.

So, I encourage you to take a seat in your favorite chair, snuggle in your bed, or plump down on the floor in your prayer closet and get ready. Let us all draw closer to the Lord and discover the secrets to finding God’s comfort and peace while we are Waiting on When.

    SECRET ONE

    LET GO AND LET GOD

My boys are two and a half years apart. When they were younger, Little C always wanted to be like his big brother C. One day, the four of us were outside enjoying the spring weather. The boys were probably about six and four at the time. Suddenly Little C came around the side of the house yelling, Look at me! He was riding Big C’s bike and it was twice as big as he was. My heart skipped a beat for a moment, and I kept waiting for him to fall. Big C, sensing my apprehension, tapped me on the arm and smiled. Mom, he wanted me to let go, and I did.

How many times does God want us to let go of a situation and we don’t?

Women are fixers by nature. I honestly believe the Lord engraved it into all of us when He made Eve. I remember one particular situation in my life that I spent years trying to fix. First, I made lists of everything I thought I could do to fix the situation. Then, I tackled those lists with fierce determination and intensity. But guess what? None of it worked. I was trying to fix it all myself. Oh, of course, I was praying for God to take care of the situation, but I was also trying to help move things along. God does not need our help! It’s not our job to be the Holy Spirit to our spouse, our children, our family, or our friends.

This is a lesson I am still learning. While driving down the road listening to the Christian radio station KLOVE and praying the other day, God brought these words to my mind: Let go, and let Me handle it. It was like a white flag waving right in front of me. I didn’t want to surrender or let go during the midst of my current trial. I felt like I would be giving up if I chose to take that white flag. But God continued: No, My child, just let go and let Me take over. So with a heavy heart I chose to take the white flag and surrender the situation to our great and mighty God! Sometimes we have to let go, physically separate ourselves from the situation or current trial and just let Him take over! We must trust and rely totally on Him. But in order to do this, we must first understand…

His Person, His Power, and His Promises.

Before we dive in and focus on God’s person, power and promises, I want you to take a moment and let your hair down, rip the bandage off your wound and tell the Lord what you’re dealing with. He already knows, but it helps to put it on paper and let your feelings out. So, what are you waiting on? What trial are you facing? What prayer do you want God to answer?

    HIS PERSON

We know that God is not a human being, but the divine being who created all mankind. God has a unique character with specific attributes. Attributes are characteristics, traits, or features that are inherently part of someone or something. Let us look at the ABCs of God’s attributes.

    All Knowing

God is all knowing. The Creator of the universe knows what choices I am going to make before I make them. He is the author of my story and your story. He knows what mistakes we will make, but He created us with freewill.

Remember the former things, those of long ago: I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say; My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. Isaiah 46:9-10 (NIV).

You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Psalm 139:1-3 (NIV)

I remember days spent begging God to know the end of my
