    Help to Get over It! - Rev. D. R. Williams

    Chapter One

    Help Me Lord

    (Author’s Personal Testimony)

    The Early Years

    Psalms 109:26

    Help me, O LORD my God;

    save me in accordance

    with your love.

    NIV

    When I look over my life and take it apart decade by decade, I can remember some times that were dark, difficult and very trying. In the midst of reminiscing, I can also recall periods of pleasure, joy and triumph.

    Like the words of a gospel song, My good days out weigh my bad days, so I won’t complain! God has been very good to me and has blessed my marriage. Over thirty years ago I met my husband, John, during the first week of my freshman year at Clark University, Worcester, Ma. I married him one year later. We are the proud parents of four daughters, one son and three sons-in-laws. We have one grandson (Christian) and two granddaughters (Camille and Kayla). John and I have had the opportunity to live in New England, on the West Coast, in the Deep South, on the East Coast, in the Mid-West and we now reside in Orlando, Florida.

    During those years, I can remember times of plenty when all seemed to go well and times of want when there did not seem to be enough to go around. Through it all, I learned the importance of being totally Dependent ON God so that I could become a Dependable servant.

    My experiences have encouraged me to rely on God to meet my every need. I have learned to seek God in prayer for every move and decision in my life. It is true we can cast our care upon God in confidence being anxious for nothing!

    Since I am mostly an emotion driven person, you can imagine what a great discovery it was to learn that emotions have worth in God’s kingdom! Having the ability to put oneself in someone else’s shoes points others to the realization that no matter how we’ve been hurt or grief stricken or how abandoned we may feel, God can turn it around. God can help us to GET OVER IT! Scripture teaches us, We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 KJV

    Think of a very talented artist sitting on a beautiful hillside overlooking an ocean and meadow of beautiful flowers. Picture in your mind’s eye a beautiful blue sky full of fluffy powder puff clouds. Imagine theocean full of white capped waves with majestic sea gulls flying over head. Imagine the skillful artist capturing on his canvas the brilliant colors of the flowers and the vibrant green of the grass beneath. When the artist is finished you can see a brilliant masterpiece of the majestic
