About this ebook

A head-on car accident caused my head to hit the dashboard/steering wheel/and go through the windshield. This impact resulted in a closed head injury, traumatic brain injury, damaged eye nerve plus weak muscle, and ...among other injuries and conditions....double vision.

Come explore my 45 year history in dealing with eyecare professionals, triggering mechanisms, pre and post prisms, and strabismus surgery. You will also learn how to naturally lessen symptoms. A must read for others who are living with this condition. You are not alone.

I wrote this book after realizing there simply were no patient stories "out there" other than those related to vision care offices. My story is independent and based on tried-and-true experiences.

My 45 Years Of Living With Double Vision - Marie Buckner

    Copyright 2020 Marie Buckner

    INTRODUCTION

Hi, everyone. Thanks for buying my ebook about living with

double vision. This book has been years in the making. Why?

Because talking about this topic is difficult. It brings back many

not-so-happy memories and current day thoughts.

Living with double vision is something I have dealt with for over

45 years. With time periods starting from being in Intensive Care

after my car accident to having corrective surgery 35 years

later, it has indeed been a journey.

You may be wondering why I am writing this ebook. Since

starting a blog titled Booktoots' Healing, I realize that there are

many others looking for real-life answers to health situations

they are dealing with. They want to feel less alone.

I started Booktoots' Healing while recuperating from a total

knee replacement. I felt isolated and lonely, and all I was

receiving as feedback was from friends who seemed rather

unsympathetic. Even though they had not been through anything

similar, they sure knew how I was overreacting. I felt all alone,

and decided to write about my everyday experiences.

Anyway...at times throughout my tkr (total knee replacement)

blog, I started writing about my double vision. Then readers

started to share their own experiences. There is not much on the

Internet about patients actually living with double vision.

So...I decided to write this book. It has not been an easy

journey. I am certain anyone living with this condition knows

what I am speaking about. Hopefully my experiences will help you.

    BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The best place to start is always the beginning. So...How did my

    double vision start?

My double vision, technically known as diplopia, was the result of

injury I sustained during a head-on car collision. My head hit the

dashboard and went through the windshield upon impact with the

oncoming car. The left side of my head hit first. This jostled my

brain, causing a subdural hematoma and a traumatic brain

    injury.

Since my skull was not fractured, the injury is also known as a

closed head injury. Living with that condition is the subject of

    another book.

The impact also affected my eye nerves and muscles in ways that

I understand is called Post Traumatic Vision Syndrome. I now

have a damaged nerve, diagnosed as a nerve palsy, and a weak

muscle in my left eye. The effects of these have combined,

    resulting in double vision.

Throughout the years, I have heard and read about references to

double vision. This includes songs, articles, movies and other

media formats. Many times the topic is presented as a joke.

Believe me, there is nothing funny about having double vision.

For 20 years I believed the only way to cure my double vision

was to have surgery. The first opthamologist I saw told me that

the only solution was to have
