    Introduction

She hugged me and I went into the living room to relax on the couch. Brad came about 10mins later. Hey! Gorgeous. You feel any better?

I do a little, I had a talk with mom.

That's good, you wanna go do something?

Sure. What do you want to do. He grabbed my hand not saying a  word I followed him, we walked to the car he helped me in and started driving.

Where we going, I asked confused.

You'll see. By this time it was starting to get dark and he pulled into the nature trail parking lot.

    What are we doing here?

Follow me. He held my hand and led me to the waterfall.

Noticing little lights in the distance, I tried to figure out what they were. Getting closer, I saw that he set up a little table. There was a vase of my favorite roses, a candle on each side, champagne glasses, and food.

What's all this? I asked with envy.

A fairy tale dinner, for my queen. Come sit. We sat down and he poured me a glass of champagne. He lifted the cover from my dish. There was a beautiful plate of lobster.

This is so beautiful, you are so good to me. I can't figure out why.

Renea. my love for you is so strong I feel it through my whole body. You are all I dream about, you are all I want. The whole world melts away when I am with you.

Tears filled my eyes. I'm sorry, Brad. Sorry that I am causing all this pain for you.

Listen to me you are not causing it, stop thinking that.

But, I am causing it. I made the first move on you. It is my fault. Seeing you hurt makes me hurt. I don't know how to fix it.

Gazing into my eyes he said. If you hadn't made the first move, I was going to. It killed me to see you every day with Loey, and I wasn't able to touch or feel you.

Yeah, but this wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for me making that move.

I have loved you for as long as I can remember. I always wanted you and no one else. It's always been you. He said compassionately.

I cried even more with his words. Leaning over the table I kissed him. We finished our champagne and food. He stood up and walked over to me, taking my hand he pulled me from the chair.

Pulling me closer, he wrapped his arms around me whispering in my ear. I don't know what else to do.

    What do you mean?

I don't know what else I can do to prove how much I love you.

You do enough, Brad. I know you love me.

How can I show you that everything I do is for you? How can I prove to you that I want to do it, not because you think I have to? He asked.

I looked into his eyes and he had tears coming down his cheeks, I  wiped them away. It's not you, Brad. I know that you do everything you can for me. I know how much you love me. But, seeing you upset all the time kills me inside.

I am upset when you are, I am happy when you are, and I hurt when you hurt. I rested my head on his chest, and we stood there like that for awhile. Picking my chin up, he gave me one of those slow passionate kisses. I better get you home so you don't get in trouble.

    Can we stay here forever?

I would love that Renea but, your parents wouldn't. For now, we have to get you home. You can't be grounded, I won't get to see you.

Wrapping my arm around his I leaned my head against his shoulder and we walked back to the car. I couldn't let go of his hand the whole ride. Squeezing it so hard I made him red.

    Chapter 1

My name is Renea Evers I am 17. I live in a small mining town in Pennsylvania. It is a quaint little town nestled in a valley between mountains covered with trees. The town looks like it stepped out of the late 1800's to early 1900's. Some of the side roads were still made of the red bricks from long ago.

The most beautiful part of the town was the central park. The park was lined with maple and pine trees. A big fountain with an angel in the middle graced the center. A gazebo was housing for many bands and competitions they held each year. I loved the town quite a lot. This is where I met my true love, my soul mate.

It all started when the annual motorcycle rally began, called Roaring Valley.  My best friend Loey Overly and I made our plans to enter the Miss Roaring Valley contest as we did every year.

Loey was 18, she was much prettier than me. She had long burgundy locks of curls, skin to match porcelain. Not one blemish, and eyes that most people got lost in. I, on the other hand, was an average looking girl with medium brown hair, normal skin, and light brown eyes.

I asked Loey. Do you think that I should enter the contest this year? The competition is much stronger. I don't think that I have a chance.

You may be surprised, She said.

    What do you mean?

There are a lot of people in this town who think you are gorgeous you just need to see it yourself. She exclaimed.

I couldn't believe what she was saying. I had my own opinion of myself. I considered myself to be average and weird. I loved everything about the paranormal. I was intrigued by the fact that it was possible for spirits of all types to mingle among us. And that we had no idea they were there.

I watched shows that most people wouldn't even look at. I listened to 90's music. I was quiet, and in return, I didn't have many friends. The day arrived for Roaring Valley to start. Loey and I had three days to pick our outfits for the contest. We needed a biker outfit, a gown, and a swimsuit.

Loey called me, You want to go pick our outfits for the contest.

Sure where do you want to go first?

    Sally's first, She answered back.

Sally's was a little boutique that sold probably everything we needed for the contest. We were going to the boutique because Loey nor I had a lot of money so we had to shop smart.

Okay, Do you want me to drive? I asked.

I'll pick you up. I am already out I had to go to the store for my mom. I waited on the porch for her to come. When she arrived I hoped in the car and we talked about the outfits that we wanted, we had no idea what to buy. Well, hurry Renea. Let's see if we can't find us something that will knock the socks off of the judges.

That is not possible, but I am willing to try.

I wish you would quit thinking like that. You have no idea how pretty you are, I am going to try and prove that to you.

I appreciated the fact that Loey had so much faith in me, but I couldn't help laughing at her response. We stepped into Sally's and looked at all the beautiful clothing she had at the great prices.

She greeted us at the door, How may I help you, two young ladies, today?

We're here to find outfits for the Miss Roaring Valley Contest, I answered her.

I think we can find you two something. She began by pulling some jeans, t-shirts, and bandanas from the shelves. Let's start with your biker outfits.

We began trying on the biker attire. I laughed as Loey exited the fitting room. She was dressed in tight skinny jeans and a loose fitting top that said bikers rule. She looked completely ridiculous.

With a laugh, she said, You needed a little laugh to loosen you up.

That worked,  I said still laughing.

She then reappeared with dark blue skinny jeans that had embellishments on them. A tank top with a picture of a pink chopper on it. And a pair of leather Harley Davidson hills that were lined with silver studs. She looked as if she just stepped out of a  Magazine.

    Your turn. She said.

I entered the fitting room and emerged with big baggy jeans. A baggy shirt that read I'm with stupid. I had a bandanna on like I just got done cleaning.

Loey started laughing, That's way better than my outfit. I laughed so hard that I almost peed myself.

When I returned from the fitting room I was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans that had holes cut in them covered with lace. A pink tank top that had a black chopper on it similar to Loey's. And a pair of black hills that were strappy sandals. Loey's eyes popped.

What? You don't like it. Do I look sleazy? I asked anxiously.

No! You look gorgeous. She exclaimed.

    Yeah! Right.

    Seriously! You do.

    Thank you! Loey.

Now that we had our biker outfits we were ready to pick our gowns. I picked a black gown that was fitted at the top with spaghetti straps. The straps were lined with diamond looking gems. The bottom flared out a bit like a mermaid about mid thigh to a little below my knees.

Loey also picked a black gown. It ran just below her knees and was form fitting strapless. The gown had pink gems around the top and waist area. If anyone could pull this look off it would be Loey. We stood together and looked in the mirror.

Loey! I have to admit, we both look outrageously gorgeous! I said in excitement.

I told you that I would change your mind. You need to start realizing that you are a very pretty girl.

It was time to get the bathing suits. I was kind of shy about this part because I always felt that I had an awkward build. Loey always said my form was great and that most women would die to have my body. I grabbed the swimsuits that Sally pulled for us and tried them on, one by one I dismissed them.

I said to myself I look ridiculous. Finally, I just picked the one I liked better. I don't know Loey. I feel weird in these bikinis.

Just get out here so I can see you.

I stepped out in a bikini that was hot pink and had leather trim the whole way around the top and the bottoms.

Wow! Loey exclaimed. That is the perfect suit. You're bound to turn a few heads with that."

I mumbled under my breath, I beg to differ.

You know what Renea? You will realize one day that you are a beautiful girl. Now move so I can pick my suit. She returned in a black bikini with silver studs around the top and bottoms.

You look awesome, I told her with a smile.

    Thank you!

We paid Sally and decided to go grab a bite to eat, as we were leaving I asked Loey,  Do you really think that I chose the right outfits?

Yes, I told you already. Why do you question yourself all the time? You look great in everything you chose.

I don't know. People tell me that I am a pretty young lady, but my thoughts say different.

"I think you're just nervous about the competition, Renea. You're

    probably overreacting."

That's all I mentioned about the subject and pushed it out of my mind.  We were trying to decide where to eat.

We can go get Chinese. I am, really, hungry for Chinese. Brad and Carl, will be there maybe we can join them? Loey said.

I was nervous about meeting Brad and Carl. Carl Taylor was Loey's boyfriend and I have had a crush on Brad Knight for as long as I could remember. Brad was 18, the handsome and caring type, he was so heartfelt and loving to everyone.

His looks were killer. He had brownish blonde hair, light hazel eyes, and a muscular tone. He was hard not to stare at when you saw him. Loey knew I had a crush on him. She was always pushing me to tell him. I couldn't say anything to him because I was such a shy person. Brad and Carl were waiting for us in the restaurant.

Right away I knew that Loey arranged for us to meet. Loey, why didn't you tell me about this?

Because, If you knew for sure that I was meeting them you would not have agreed to come.

You got that right! I mumbled. We'll discuss this later, I  said to her.

Hey girls! Carl called out. Hows my beauty doing today? He said to Loey.

Don't make me blush already Carl! I just got here.

Carl was also 18 and very handsome which wasn't surprising considering how pretty Loey was. He had short blonde hair, the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen, and a body that made everyone hot. But, all the girls knew Loey was his and he was Loey's.

Brad saw me, Hey! What's new gorgeous? He always called me gorgeous, but I didn't know if he was saying it to be nice or if he really meant it.

Nothing. We just got done buying our outfits for the Miss Roaring Valley contest. What's new with you?

Oh, nothing. You want to show us those outfits. He replied with a wink.

Nope, you can wait. How's it going today?

Better now that I got to see your pretty face.

I could feel myself blushing instantly to his answer. Excuse me, I'll  be back I need to use the restroom. This was an excuse for me to check and see if I was as blushed as I felt.

    Okay, Hurry back, Loey said.

Brad followed Loeys words saying, Yes, hurry back I'll miss you. I began to blush more.

I entered the restroom and instantly proceeded to the mirrors. I couldn't believe how blushed my complexion was due to Brads comments. I can't believe how shy I am around him. Get yourself together. You've known him since kindergarten. I said to myself in the mirror.

You know Brad is not a free man. Just to let you know.

Turning around I seen Brads ex-girlfriend, Carrie. Carrie and I never got along too well. She looked like a barbie doll only she had long dark brown hair.

Whatever Carrie. Besides, there is nothing between Brad and me. She stormed out the door.

Continuing to look in the mirror I thought to myself, Brad is one heck of a hunk everything about him drives me crazy. The way he looks at me, the way he talks to me, his loving caring ways, and especially that body of his. You are not normal if he doesn't turn you on.

I fluffed my hair and fixed my makeup to cover the redness from blushing. I rejoined my friends at the table not mentioning my encounter in the restroom.

You feel better now? Brad said with a smile.

Yes, let's look at these menus and get food in our belly's.

Loey agreed and motioned for the server, Can I get you guys something to drink? The server asked.

Yeah, I'll have a vanilla milkshake, Brad said.

Carl ordered the same, Loey and I both ordered colas, Alright, I'll be right back with those for you.

Loey laughed at them and said, I have no idea how you guys stay so fit with all of the sugar you eat and drink.

Brad offered up an explanation, It's because we are just that good.

Giving each other a high five, Carl said: Yeah what he said. Loey and I just laughed at them.

Yeah! Maybe that good in your dreams. Loey answered.

Maybe not even then, I added to the conversation.

We all laughed. The server brought our drinks to us and took our order. Brad ordered Beef and Broccoli. Which, was one of my favorites. Carl and Loey both ordered Sweet and Sour Pork and Lo-mien Noodles to share. I ordered Beef Lo-mien and fried wontons.

That looks good. I just barely heard in my ear.

    What did you say Loey?

I didn't say anything. I was talking to Carl and eating.

    Stop playing with me.

Again, I have no idea what you are talking about. Calm down and quit worrying about the contest.

That has nothing to do with this. I could have sworn that you said something to me.

Nope. Now eat your food before the guys get it.

Whatever I know you're messing with me.

Brad and Carl both looked at me in a funny way and said: Loey didn't say a word. I was dumbfounded, I made myself look like a fool.

Looking around I saw Carrie sitting in the booth behind me staring at me with a smile on her face. Putting two and two together I knew it was her. Why was she doing this? I told her there was nothing between Brad and me.

    Brads mine I heard.

I ignored her voice this time. I had already made myself look like a complete idiot once in front of my crush. I didn't want to do it again. I also didn't  want to bring up Carrie. Loey couldn't stand her and I didn't want to start trouble. I try to avoid it. We all finished eating. Brad and Carl paid the tab for us.

Thank you, I said to Brad.

No, Prob! Anything for a beauty like you. I blushed again I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks.

Are you ready to go Loey? I said ignoring the fact that I was probably beet red.

Yes! Let's get out of here.

See you later tonight baby, Carl said.

Bye, handsome I will miss you until then.

Loey and Carl were such a great couple everyone knew it,  everyone saw it. I was hoping that I would have that some day. On our way home I never mentioned to Loey that Carrie was the one messing with me. Instead, I brought up the fact that she had set me up to go meet with Brad and Carl.

Why didn't you tell me that you already had plans on meeting the guys? I scolded her.

Because I know how much you like Brad and I knew you would chicken out if I told you that we were meeting them there.

Your darn right about that, Loey.

Look you need to get over that shyness and tell Brad you like him. He really likes you a lot. He just doesn't want to tell you because he is afraid it will ruin your friendship if you don't feel the same.

It would be impossible not to at least be friends with him he is the most caring loving person I have met, except for you and my family. I don't know how to tell him that I like him without making myself look stupid.

You won't know unless you try, Renea.

Alright, I'll think about what you said.

What is with you today? She asked.

Maybe it's just my nerves or my mind playing tricks on me. I still didn't want to tell Loey about Carrie. Let's just forget about it.

We arrived at my house and she said: See you tomorrow. Love you.

I yelled back. Love you too.

When I got into the house I found a note from my parents.

    Renea,

We will be out until around ten o'clock. If you get hungry we left some money for you to get a pizza. See you tonight.

    Love Mom and Dad

My parents were the greatest always concerned with what I needed and wanted. I couldn't ask for anyone better. I wasn't hungry because I was still full from the Chinese food. I pondered what to do, so I grabbed my bags and took them to my bedroom. I needed to get the gown hung and the other outfits put away properly so that they wouldn't wrinkle.

I  was still trying to figure out why I was entering this contest. Was it because Loey wanted me to. Was it that I needed to prove to myself that I had a chance to win? Maybe it was that I wanted to impress Brad. Why am I doing this?

I looked at myself if the mirror, I knew I didn't have a chance at winning this contest. The door opened, I knew it was mom and dad.  I went downstairs and gave them a hug.

How was your night? I asked.

They said, Fine, Sweetie! How was yours?

Ah, you know, Loey and I went to get our outfits for the contest. Then we ate Chinese with the guys.

That's nice honey. Did you have fun? Mom asked.

    Yes! I did.

What do you and Loey have planned for tomorrow? Dad asked.

We have to go to Roaring Valley to get the contest rules and entry forms.

Would you mind showing us your outfits you bought?

No give me a minute, dad, I'll get them.

I got downstairs mom said: Okay let us see.

I showed them one by one as they looked at each one they said Beautiful! You are going to knock them dead.

I hoped so. Everybody was telling me that I had a good shot at winning. But I was still feeling kind of leery about it. I needed to get my self-esteem up and I was hoping this contest would help. You need to have the confidence to participate in Miss Roaring Valley. I was determined to show myself that I could do this no matter what it took.

I texted Loey, Goodnight. Love You. Chick!

Goodnight. Love You Too. Chicka! This was our nightly ritual.

I started fading off to sleep tossing and turning. All I kept thinking was you are crazy you have no chance at winning this contest. I was dreaming of a young lady around my age.

I had a hard time seeing what she looked like. She was in a competition similar to the one I entered. Walking up on stage with confidence that would light up the sky, she tripped. Everyone started laughing at her, she was so embarrassed she turned around and ran. I sat straight up in bed and thought I hope that wasn't me.

I texted, Loey, Morning! Are you excited for today?

Yes! I can not wait. Are you?

Actually no I am not excited about today.

    Why?

I had a really weird dream last night about a young girl around my age. I am thinking this may be a warning. What do you think?

I think you're still losing it Renea. You need to calm down. Let's not talk about this right now. Get showered and I will be there to pick you up soon.

Okay, I'll be ready when you get here.

See ya then. She pulled up about an hour later. I was waiting for her on the porch.

Hey! Girl! Be out in a second. I yelled to her. She waved letting me know she heard me.

She asked, Are you ready for the contest.

No, I'm extremely nervous about it.

As she was driving down the road all I could do is stare out the window thinking about that strange dream I had, and hoping that this is not going to happen to me.

What's the matter Renea? I didn't hear her because I was lost in my thoughts. Renea! She screamed.

    Oh! What?

I asked what's the matter? You are awfully quiet.

Not wanting to bring the subject up about how the dream affected me. I said, I'm just thinking about the competition.

Oh! Well, you seem lost today.

    Nope! I'm good.

The silence in her car was a little eerie even though I was the one causing it. We usually talk a lot, but she couldn't understand why I was bugging so bad over the contest, so I just kept wondering out the window. We pulled up to the park and made our way to the gazebo where everyone was meeting.

Well come on! She said in excitement.

I'm coming. I am getting more and more nervous about this, it is becoming a little too real for me.

Don't worry, Renea. You'll be fine.

The coordinators for the contest were already there waiting on everyone. Hi, what're your names? Justin asked.

Renea, calm down, Loey whispered. My name is Loey Overly.

    My name is Renea Evers.

Here are the rules and entry forms make sure you read them and have your forms signed and ready for tomorrow. Bring those with you and hand them in before the contest begins. If you don't follow the rules, or turn in your forms before the contest you will be disqualified. He explained.

Okay. Thank you, Justin! Loey said with excitement.

Thank you, I said with hesitation in my voice.

Don't worry you'll do fine, Renea. It's not that bad. He said.

Thank you, Justin, I appreciate that.

Renea, come on you really need to loosen up. It's not going to be that bad. You have a good chance at winning.

In my mind, the other girls entering the contest were so much prettier than me. There is no way I have a chance at winning this but I thanked Loey anyway. Thank you. I hope so.

So what do we do now? She asked.

Well, it's lunch time. You wanna grab a bite to eat?

Yeah! Let's go to The Burger Joint!

    That sounds great to me.

The Burger Joint was the hang out for most of the teens in town. And yes The Burger Joint was really its name.
