Introduction
My name is Corine Hart and I was a normal 19 year old until my dad was transferred to Night Pennsylvania for his job. It all started when I met the man of my dreams Demetrius Pike. I began to hear and see things, scary things. At first, I couldn't believe any of it. I had a hard time wrapping my mind around what was going on. I found unbelievable things out about my family history. Things that you won't even believe. Terrible, horrible, scary, things that no 19 year old should have to deal with. Demetrius and I found out information about his family that was almost unbearable to him. Some things he didn't want to believe. He had choice but too. A few good things came from it all, that was the new friends that I made, and of course, Demetrius. There was nothing else good about any of it, I lost my whole family. I am the only one left. I believe that it is not over and that it will never be over. I know that they will come for Demetrius and I again. I only hope that we will be as strong the next time. So, I'm going to tell you my story and how things ended. The only thing left to say is I hope that you don't scare easily. I'm telling you that mine and Demetrius' past families are not very good people.
Chapter 1
It was a cold winter day. The little town I lived in was in Pennsylvania. You can just imagine the snow we had. I decided I was going to go jogging. Stepping outside was like trying to ice skate for the first time.
I stumbled my way to the road where it wasn't icy due to the tons of rock salt the road crew spread down. It was before dawn so the town was quiet. Jogging passed all the trees that lined my street was a breath of fresh air.
I continued my journey into town passing all the little shops on the way. They all looked like they hadn't been updated since the 1800's. The bookstore had a bunch of old books in the windows that looked antiqued with their leather-bound covers and inscriptions on them.
The rest of the shops were in old buildings that looked like they should have been torn down millenniums ago, but yet they were still standing. Among them were a diner, a cafe, and a few clothing stores. As I looked around I wondered how could anyone live here.
This is my first morning in the town. My dad was a businessman and he was transferred here from New York to run the new office his company built here. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why they would put one in a town like this. I never asked questions about my dad's job though. I just went along for the ride.
Continuing further down the road I noticed a small old cemetery. Being a curious person, I found myself roaming through it reading all of the headstones. Most of them were around my age, teens between the ages of 17-19.
My mind racing thinking, What the hell. This is so weird.
Shaking it off I walked a little further.
I must have slipped on ice because the next thing I knew I was being helped up by someone.
Are you okay?
The sexiest voice I ever heard asked.
Dusting all the snow from myself, I looked up to see the most handsome guy I've seen in my life.
Stuttering, I said, I'm fine. Thank you.
My names Demetrius Pike. What's yours?
Staring at him with lust I fumbled, My name is Corine Hart. I'm so embarrassed.
He was cool and collective, No need to be embarrassed. If I wasn't here who knows what could have happened.
Staring at him with confused and lusty eyes, I asked, What's that supposed to mean?
He started laughing staring deep into my eyes he said, I'm kidding calm down. So what are you doing in the cemetery before dawn anyway?
Going on my morning jog. Why are you here?
Looking at me intensely he said, Oh, ya know. Nothing better to do in a town this small. Besides, it's so peaceful before the weirdos come out.
I couldn't quit lusting over him. His eyes were almost turquoise. He had the blackest hair I've seen on anyone in my life and a body that would put gladiators to shame. Being dressed in jeans, a t-shirt that showed off his muscles, black boots, and a leather jacket I got the impression that he was the town's bad boy.
Finally, getting over my heart rate and blushed face I asked, What do you mean weirdos?
Just kidding again. But seriously you shouldn't be roaming around here by yourself before daylight. Where do you live I'll walk you home?
I only live a few blocks from here. Passed the stores.
Alright come on Corine Hart. I'll walk you home. I insist on it. We can learn a little more about each other on the way.
Having these thoughts of lust in my head I couldn't argue. So we began to walk. It wasn't let's learn about each other. It
was Demetrius learning about me. He was doing all the asking.
So Corine, where are from? Did you move here for a reason? How long are you staying? When did you get here?
New York. My dad's company just built an office here that he is going to run. Probably forever, or if the office closes. Yesterday afternoon.
That's cool maybe we can become a little more acquainted.
Not even having enough time to ask him questions my house was right there. Here's my house. Thank you for the walk.
No prob. See ya around.
Before I could even say bye he was gone like he disappeared into nowhere. Thinking to myself, That was weird where'd he go? O well.
I went into the kitchen and grabbed a drink of water and headed to the shower.
After I was done showering I sat at my vanity combing my hair. I must say I was pretty attractive with my fair skin, dark brown curls that flowed below my shoulders. My frame was average and I stood five foot six and had baby blue eyes.
All of the sudden it felt like someone touched me. Looking in the mirror I saw Demetrius. Well, at least I thought I had. He stared at me with those intense turquoise eyes. Tilting my head to the side he began to nibble at my neck.
Turning my heart rate and temperature up instantly. I heard him say, You're beautiful. I will keep you safe.
Then I snapped back to reality. There was no one there but me. What just happened? Was that real? If it was where did he go?
Leaning back with my head down, I thought. It must have been my lust for him. It must have been a daydream.
There is no way I was having daydreams about him already. We just met this morning. This has never happened to me
before. I put on a pair of black skinny jeans, a pink tank top, and a bright pink hoodie. Walking down the steps I could not get Demetrius out of my head. Why did I keep thinking about him like this? I mean, I just met him, literally.
Of course, I was home by myself. Dad was always working and mom was always out doing charity work. I was in this big house all alone. I never had a chance to actually explore it. What better time I thought.
The house was updated with hardwood floor and fresh paint, but the modern furniture with chrome and steel didn't match very well. Wondering through the house I was amazed by the antique moldings and fixtures. Down to the amazing chandelier that hung in the foyer.
This house must have been wonderful when it was built. I thought, I wish I could have seen it then.
Continuing on my exploration I stumbled upon my dad's study. It was all hardwood including the bookshelves that lined the walls from top to bottom. Even my dad's desk.
All the rooms mostly looked the same the antique hardwood framing and fixtures. Entering the attic I came across an old trunk.
Trying to open it, I screamed, My finger. Damn it.
Forgetting about the trunk I ran downstairs to clean it. Holding my finger under the water I could have sworn I saw someone look in the window at me.
That's impossible Corine you're on the second floor. Calm down.
I said to myself.
All of the sudden I heard a pounding on the door. Grabbing a band aid I ran down the steps. Opening the door my temperature rose and I turned beat red. It was Demetrius.
What are you doing here?
I asked him flustered.
Can I come in? It's cold out you know.
He asked.
I knew I shouldn't let him in. I just met him, but I just couldn't tell him no, Sure,
I said while stepping aside.
This house is great. I love the old antique style of it. What happened to your finger?
He said in amazement.
Well, first off you didn't answer my question why are you here? I love this house too and I cut it on an old trunk in the attic. Are you from here?
I'm here because I wanted to make sure you were okay. Yes, I was born here. An old trunk in the attic?
Everything seemed secret to him. He was blunt to the point, giving answers no more or no less, just what needed to be said.
So tell me something about yourself. Are you the bad boy of the town? Is there anything to do here?
What is this the 20 question game?
This gorgeous guy dodging my questions once more. My mind was saying, So what he is so hot and he's in your house, with you by yourself.
Finally, able to get words to come out I said, Yes it is the 20 question game. Are you going to answer me?
I'm 19, my parents work all of the time, no I don't have a girlfriend, and yes I'm sort of the bad boy around here. The kind your mom warns you about. And finally, no there is nothing to do in this town what you see is what you get.
The kind of guy my mom warns me about?
I asked in confusion. Staring at him with my eyes burning a hole through his clothes, And I didn't ask if you had a girlfriend, but since you brought it up why not? I can think of lots to do with you. Oh, shit did that just come from my mouth?
I thought out loud.
Looking at me and winking with a smile he said, Just pulling your leg about the bad boy. And I have no girlfriend because I wasn't interested in anyone. What things can you think of to do with me?
Blushing so bad I was able to feel the heat radiating off my body, Let's forget I said that last part. What do you mean you weren't interested?
Stressing the word weren't.
Let's forget the 20 questions. Do you have a drink?
Leading him to the kitchen I grabbed a can of soda and handed it to him. We just stood there in silence looking at each other. Very awkward moment. Especially after I said that to him.
Moving closer to me like he was ready to kiss me, he said: So, let me take a look at your finger.
The instant he grabbed my hand it felt like an electric shock traveled through my body, but it was a good shock.
So why so nervous? I'm just checking your finger for you. It'll be fine.
He said.
I'm not nervous.
Hmm...hmm, whatever you say.
He dropped my hand, smiled, and winked at me again. Walking toward the door he said, Catch you later, Corine Hart.
I was right behind him as he left. Looking out the door he was gone. He vanished again. Man, this guy was fast. He was so mysterious I was completely intrigued with him. Wanting to know more about him I put my lugs on and headed to town.
This town was weird. Every building I passed had the hours of 8 am to 5 pm. The first place I stopped was the bookstore. For some reason, I was attracted to it. Not being able to wrap my mind around why. I began to look through the books.
A tiny petite girl emerged from the back room. She was very pretty. Her long black hair hung below her shoulders and she had the same turquoise eyes as Demetrius.
Hi, my name is Kira Pike. Can I help you with something?
Kira Pike? Are you related to Demetrius?
I asked her curiously.
Yes, he's my brother. You know him?
Let's just say we met this morning, briefly. Why is he so mysterious?
"He always is. He thinks it makes him look good in front of
the ladies. Which he doesn't have to do. He can have any girl he wants. They all have the hots for him."
How come he doesn't have a girlfriend then?
It's hard to explain. I will tell you that he is waiting for that special person. Well, let me know if you find anything that interests you.
I will Kira. Thank you.
Browsing through the store, I was drawn to the antique looking books. One instantly grabbed my attention. It was bound in brown leather with The Night Creatures inscribed on it.
I yelled for Kira and said, I'll take this one.
Her eyes widened. Are you sure you want this one? There are plenty of books here.
Yes, I definitely want this one.
Still looking hard at me she said: Okay, I'll be back, there is a bag that goes with it.
She walked to the back room and I heard her talking to someone. It's her Demetrius. It's her.
She had him on speaker phone. I heard him say, How do you know? I knew that I had a weird pull to her.
She picked the book, Demetrius.
The phone went dead. She came back out with a brown leather case that matched the book. Here you go, Corine. Borrow the book, if you like it, we will talk about a price.
How did she know my name I never told her. Oh well never mind that. Thank you, Kira. I really appreciate this.
She smiled and said, No prob girl. Enjoy it.
I never even got to explore the rest of the businesses in town. Hurrying home, I jumped on my bed and began to read the book. The first page I read said, The pendant you will find. Will help guide your mind, to your kind. Wear it around your neck to help protect. You'll see why as day turns into night.
That's weird,
I thought out loud.
Reading further, there were drawings of these hideous creatures a mix between a human and a cat with glowing orange eyes. Writings that said if you stay in at night you will be safe. Do not
