Chapter One
Oh,
said Billy. What did she do? We have to get the compass fixed.
Sarah and Tina wondered about the guides, We asked them to help fix the compass.
Billy said: It must have prematurely aged in the port hole
.
They couldn’t find an answer even though they worked as a team to try and figure out the dilemma. Days seemed to go by and their disappointment was getting them down.
Auntie Sally was breezing through the paper as she did every morning, she saw something very odd. It was a small ad explaining in Chinese scripted code that old menders wanted to purchase a compass.
Sally wasted no time. She immediately sent them a telegram, explaining that she had a rather unusual compass in her possession given to the Wesley’s by a generous monk, and it presently was need of repair. If they help repair the compass the Wesley’s would be delighted to be once again in receipt of such a master piece. The letter was translated into Chinese and sent by Billy tried his hardest of all he hardly spoke a word for days he seemed like it was his fault the compass broke. Then three weeks passed and still no news.
Then as they wondered through the streets of London, they met a Chinese man sitting on a stool mending all sorts of things such as watches, chains and compasses, he was much like the man who handed them the compass.
Billy pulled the broken compass from his backpack and handed it to the Chinese man, who looked at it intensely, as if he knew what it was.
Billy was apprehensive a little because he thought that he had made a mistake in handing it over. The Chinese man said. I recognize this compass, it was my best one!
Wait a minute!
Billy said it’s our compass now.
Hurry, hurry,
said the Chinese man I’ll fix it for you.
You very lucky, compass nearly broke for good.
Billy said Have you fixed it then?
Good as new – be more careful in future.
There’s only one person who fixes these in the world
said the Chinese man.
You might need me again
said the Chinese man.
Sorry
said Billy I didn’t mean to break it!
Your name Wesley?
said the man.
Yes, how did you know my name?
said Billy.
The Chinese man smiled Open your mind.
And Billy knew that he shared the same secret about the magnet.
How much do we owe you?
said Billy.
Work to do, done for you free
said the Chinese man.
And as Billy was walking, he noticed that the newspaper that it was wrapped up in was the ad that Aunt Sally had answered to.
Billy was convinced the compass was really fixed and was grateful to Aunt Sally for her help and her eye at seeing the ad.
Sarah and Tina wanted to see for themselves that the compass was fixed so Billy showed them, and when they were happy with it, he put it back
