About this ebook

NEW EDITION!
To tell you about myself, I am a 20-year abuse survivor, author, activist, former minister, and former political columnist who has seen more people's lives destroyed than you can possibly imagine. With that being told, throughout my years in various ministries such as jail ministry as well as my personal witness of countless souls around me bound by addiction; I have come to the realization after many years of observation and personal interaction, that there are certain traits that are found in almost every case of adverse, self-destructive behavior regardless of race, sex, or age. It is my goal and hopes that this written work would help many of those hurting in the bonds of addiction, suicidal ideation, and depression.

This book is for all who are bound by the "pain of past" and struggle to cope with their daily lives. This is a book of answers, not of endless questions, as is normal Psychology today. A work dedicated for all who are bound in addiction, and have become "mental slaves" to their horrible past hurts, found tortured by inner shame.
"Hidden shame always breeds mental totalitarianism."
It is written in a direct, head-on style to address your deeply engrained problems directly and thoroughly. This book is truly unlike anything that you have ever read before.

The answer to your "pain of past" is here!

"The 5 Core Truths to All Self-Destructive Behavior is a self-help book for today's generation that strongly critiques, if not slams, the whole of modern psychology." - PrLog

The 5 Core Truths To All Self-Destructive Behavior - 2021 Edition - Joy Thayer

    Introduction:

To begin, I must firmly convey to you, ‘the reader' that I am not a doctor, psychologist, or a holder of any licensed title in the medical field. To tell you about myself, I am a 20-year abuse survivor, author, activist, former minister, and former political columnist who has seen more people’s lives destroyed than you can possibly imagine.

Just as I have been in the past, and still fight daily.

    Using of this Book:

First and foremost, this is NOT a book of religion. I am a former lay minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and not in any way ashamed of that fact. I am today a transgender Christian and not ashamed of that fact either. But to be truthful with this book, I am not proselytizing anyone.

This book is not a sermon, nor is it a work of Christian apologetics. However, this work does contain much scripture from the King James Version of the Bible. This was done to convey to you, ‘the reader;’ the richness of wisdom written in its ancient pages. It is my hope that this wisdom will in some way help you, encourage you, and enlighten you on your journey to find true mental peace, freedom, and harmony.

With that being fully submitted, let us begin...

    Chapter 1: The Mental Being

The body says what words cannot.

    Martha Graham (1894 - 1991)

The human mind is an extraordinarily complex, yet fragile thing. It is affected by the slightest nuance of environmental change, such as climate or scenery. A rainy day can create bad feelings. A sunny day can create a will to live. A warm day filled with clouds can create thoughts of fluffy bunnies and white thoroughbreds dancing across the sky. With each unique and different substance around us, there is always a new thought, a new ideology.

A warm day makes us respond by putting on thinner, less restrictive clothes. Why? Because our brain tells us they are cooler. The reverse happens during a cold snap, making us bundle up. We instinctively run for the nearest shelter, whether it is a covered structure, awning, or even a tree; when we hear a rumble of thunder and witness a crack of lightning, streaking across the sky.

We do this because our brains tell us there is a risk of harm or electrocution, even though the rational odds of being struck by lightning are in the millions, if not billions. We react with great pause, every time that we hear our weather radio or cell phone’s loud signal or see an emergency broadcast scroll at the bottom of our television screens, regardless if it affects us or not. Truly, with every environmental change around us, there is a mental response followed by a physical response.

Our hand is quickly pulled back from a hot stove, because our brain tells us,

    "Injury ahead!"

We instinctively duck at the sound of a close gunshot, because our brain tells us,

    "There is a bullet!"

We flinch as the doctor’s needle comes closer, because our brain tells us,

    "There will be pain!"

This is, of course, basic common knowledge that we all know and is expanded upon, as we are taught from an early age. However, what is many times not taught or consciously learned; is the truth that this same simple concept of ‘mental first, then physical’ is also found in every aspect and part of our lives, whether we realize it or not.

With that being said, we must understand that we do not live in a physical world. Rather, we use our thoughts to control our bodies to interact with the physical world around us. The facts of reality are that our true being dwells within a mental, spiritual world unseen by our crude eyes. Our thoughts are our substance and not our guide.

I know that this concept for most people is ridiculously hard to grasp. We touch, taste, see, and smell the world around us in every instance of the everyday. To say that we are not our bodies, but we are comprised of our thought to many probably seems like utter foolishness, if not lunacy.

But please, for a moment, let me consult my higher source of knowledge:

Proverbs 23:7 ‘...For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:

In this mental world in which we live, if we continually think of hurt, we will dwell in hurt and we will eventually use our bodies to hurt others or ourselves in the physical world. Usually, with our words or our actions. If we perpetually think of kindness, we will manifest kindness and eventually use our bodies to be kind or perform acts of kindness to others. There is also an element of self-kindness as well. It is a case of either/or, one or the other. To ‘think good’ or ‘think evil’ is to eventually physically ‘do good’ or to ‘do evil’ to yourself and others. My higher source also puts it this way:

Philippians 4:8 ‘Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.’

Even in ancient times, the early Christians knew that it was impossible to constantly think of bad, harmful things and at the same time do good things for God. Hypothetically speaking, imagine the twelve apostles only thinking about murder and rape. Yet, at the same time they travel the world spreading the ‘good news,’ preaching about peace and joy. Rape and peace coupled with murder and joy, it doesn’t make sense, right?

It certainly does not sound like much of a tent revival.
