About this ebook

"How do we worship in spirit and in truth?"

There is no single answer that you can give to that. There are no steps. In short, there is nothing you can do to worship in spirit and in truth, because it is not a matter of what you do but what you become. So, how do we worship in spirit and in truth? How do we know if we are? And how do we know if we are not? We begin in John 4:23-24.

    Chapter 1

Several people have contacted us asking the same question: How do we worship in spirit and in truth? There is no single answer that you can give to that. There are no steps. In short, there is nothing you can do to worship in spirit and in truth, because it is not a matter of what you do but what you become. Almost every book we have written has talked about this, but I can understand the question. How do we worship in spirit and in truth? How do we know if we are? And how do we know if we are not? We are going to begin with John 4:23-24. This is where Jesus talks about it.

John 4:23 But the hour is coming, and now is …

It is important to understand what Jesus is talking about here, The hour is coming and now is. Now – it is in progress and it’s going to continue to progress. It is a coming that continues.

John 4:23 …when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth …

Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man comes to the Father, but through Me (John 14:6). It is through worship that we draw near to the Father. Therefore, worship in spirit and in truth begins with the appearing of Christ in us. Others have worshiped God before, but the now is is a higher realm of worship.

John 4:23 … for the Father seeks such to worship Him.

I think that is very interesting. The Father is seeking worshipers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. He is seeking them because there are so few of them. It is difficult for Christians to learn how to worship in spirit and in truth.

John 4:24 God is Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

That is not saying it would be good for you to learn how to worship God in spirit and in truth. It is saying, "They that worship Him MUST worship Him in spirit and in truth. It is a must" thing; you have to do it. It is necessary! God the Father is seeking such to worship Him, and if we are going to worship Him, we must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

As I said, you cannot give five steps and say, Alright, you do these things and you are worshiping in spirit and in truth. It is just not that way, because it has to do with what you become. True worship comes out of a relationship with the Lord, a particular relationship with Him. So, unless you get that particular relationship with the Lord, you will not be able to worship in spirit and in truth, because that kind of worship comes out of relationship. Now, there are some things we need to know, and we are going to start with I Thessalonians 5:23.

I Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly …

We understand what sanctify means. To be sanctified means to be separated from and separated unto. You are separated from the things of the world, and you are separated from those things of the world unto the Lord. You are separated from the things of self
