About this ebook

We must learn to serve God with our spirit. We have all the senses in our spirit that are in our natural make-up. It happens as we come under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. As He comes forth in you, your spirit will begin coming alive and He creates the capacity for you to see and hear in the realm of Spirit. In this book, we look at some very familiar passages of Scripture that will help us to understand more about the Spirit realm.

    Learning to Be Spiritual

We are going to look at some very familiar passages of Scripture that will help us to understand more about the spirit realm. We must have an awareness of the spirit realm if we are going to really know the Lord. God is Spirit (John 4:24), and so are we. We are body, soul, and spirit (I Thessalonians 5:23).

One of the more important spiritual principles is the principle of transference. We will take our first look at it in the 53rd chapter of Isaiah.

Isaiah 53:4 Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

This is prophetic of Jesus Christ, but take notice that it is written in the past tense. That is the way God speaks. He calleth those things which be not as though they were. Romans 4:17. His speaking it is what makes it happen. So, He speaks it in the past tense.

Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed.

Verse 4 said: He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows. Verse 5 says: The chastisement of our peace was upon Him. Then in verse 6: The Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all. This is transference! Our iniquities were transferred to Him.

Everything the Lord says and does is eternal. When He speaks a Word, that Word is eternal. It is forever true and forever living. It will be a present reality at all times. That is why the Word of God is still alive today even though it was spoken thousands of years ago.

Jesus dying on the cross and shedding His blood for our sins is a work that still lives. It is still workable in our lives today. If a person repents and believes, his sins are washed away by the blood of Christ even though the provision was made 2,000 years ago. It still lives!

There are two things we learn from this. First, there is no time in the realm of spirit. Even though the cross was 2,000 years ago it still works today. The fact that we are 2,000 years later doesn’t change anything. It still works!

The second thing we learn is that there is no distance in the realm of spirit. You don’t have to go to Jerusalem to get salvation. No matter where you are on this earth, the moment you repent your sins are transferred all the way back to the cross. Time and distance has nothing to do with it. It works because of the principle of transference.

Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

What does justified mean? It means you are no longer guilty. You are justified by His blood. You repent, having faith in the shed blood of Christ for you, and you are cleansed from your sin. You are justified! You are no longer guilty for your sin. It doesn’t make you holy, but you are justified.

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Notice that it doesn’t say we are saved because we are justified. It says, We shall be saved by His life. What does that mean? It means that the cycle has to be completed. We are justified when our sins are transferred to the cross, but we are saved by His life being transferred to us. Being justified is just the first step of our salvation. There must also be a transference of His life to us. We shall be saved by His life. We are not saved by His death; we are saved by His life, His life in us!

Being washed by the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses and justifies the sinner, but it does not complete salvation. It is the basis by which your salvation can be completed, but that in itself does not complete it. Your justification gives you the right to become born of God. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power (the right) to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. John 1:12. Being born of God is not an instantaneous thing; it is a process that takes place as we appropriate His life. It is a process of emptying out our life and appropriating His. Then we can say, I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20.

The work of faith that appropriates the life and nature of the Lord begins after you become a Christian. You do not receive His life and nature instantaneously when you repent of your sins. It happens because you have faith for it. Many Christians never grow spiritually because they don’t make an effort to appropriate His life. We live by faith, a faith that appropriates His life. We are saved by His life coming forth in us. Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27.

Many Christians have taken that first initial step of having their sins transferred to the cross as a complete work. And it is not a complete work at that point. That is merely the first step. The principle of transference works in two directions. After our sins are transferred to the cross, then there must be a transference of His life to us. There must be a complete cycle.

A good example of appropriation is the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-34). Jesus was walking with His disciples and there was a crowd around Him. A certain woman who had an issue of blood for about twelve years had gone to many physicians and was no better. The issue of blood continued. When she saw Jesus she said, If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole. She pressed through the crowd and touched His clothes, and immediately she was healed. Jesus turned and said, Who touched Me? And the disciples answered, Master, a crowd is around us; many of them could have touched You. But Jesus knew that someone had not only touched His clothes but also had drawn life from His Spirit, for virtue had gone out from Him. There was a transference of life from Him to the woman. How did it happen? By her faith she appropriated what she needed. Jesus said, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole. Transference of His life to us doesn’t just happen. It must be appropriated!

The principle of transference has two other principles within it: the principle of impartation and the principle of appropriation. When Jesus put His hands on the children in Mark 10:16 and blessed them, He wasn’t just doing something symbolic. He was imparting life and blessing to them. He didn’t get on His knees and ask God to bless them; He blessed them Himself. There was a flow of God through Him to those children.

Here is one example of the difference between being religious and being spiritual. When a religious person prays for God to do something, he intends for God to do it apart from himself. On the other hand, the teaching of the Kingdom of God is to believe to be the channel through which God can accomplish His will. And if we are going to be channels for the movings of God, then we will have to learn
