About this ebook

Israel had camped in Horeb for about a year when God said, "You have been here long enough. It is time to move on." One of the greatest dangers we have as a Christian is a tendency to settle down in a permanent dwelling place. The moment we stop advancing in God, we are in trouble. We must have a continual walk with God!

It is Time to Break Camp

Deuteronomy 1:6-7 The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, You have dwelt long enough in this mount:

7 Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

Israel had been camped in Horeb for about a year (Exodus 19:1; Numbers 10:11-12) when God said, You have been here long enough; it's time to move on. One of the greatest dangers we have is the tendency to settle down in a permanent dwelling place. The moment we stop advancing in God, we are in trouble. We must have a continual walk with God!

The Church has dwelt in one place too long. It must begin moving on. Throughout the Church Age, the Church has had a history of encampments. The greatest withdrawal of the Church brought on the Dark Ages. Then the Reformation under Martin Luther, et al, took a giant step forward. But it soon settled down and pitched camp. After that, another movement took place under men like John and Charles Wesley. It also settled down and pitched camp. The same thing happened with the Pentecostal movement and the Charismatics. It is time for the Church to break camp and move on. Let's continually walk with God this time. The Church will never be victorious and move into the Kingdom of God until it is delivered of its need to camp.

Every time the Church has had a new experience in God, it camped there. Then it built walls around it to protect it. The final result was another ineffective Church. Every new experience should entice us to move on in God, not cause us to pitch camp. Why does man always want to make a denomination out of their little experience in God?

The description of territory in verse seven is much larger than what Israel ever possessed. God gave it to them, but they did not possess it all. The Church has done the same thing. The promises and provisions that God has made for the Church are tremendous. Even so, the Church has possessed so little. When will there be a people who will say, Let's honor God by accepting all He has given us. Let's honor God by letting Him be all He want to be to us. Let's honor God by being all that He wants us to be?

Deuteronomy 1:8 Behold, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord swore unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

Everything God had promised their fathers was theirs, too. That principle remains true today. Everything God has ever promised or provided for His people is still valid for the present generation.
