Foreword
Lori Speed Trollinger has written an inspiring and insightful literary piece that will help Christians of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds understand some of the struggles and obstacles that must be overcome in their quest to become more like Christ. Lori takes you on a journey in the Christian life and along the way explains what being saved or born-again
is really like behind all of the churchy phrases such as praise the Lord
, God is good all the time
and oh yeah, I’m blessed and highly favored
, just to name a few. She is very honest and transparent in revealing her own personal experiences as a wife, mother, daughter, church member, minister and friend whose simple desire is to please the Lord, but this is not always easy.
She uses the insight and experiences of other respected men and women of faith along with the Word of God to help every believer in Christ understand how they can stay saved
. As you read you’ll laugh, thank God, and say AMEN, but more so you’ll be educated, encouraged and empowered to continue in this wonderful new life as a child of God.
I’ve had the honor of watching Lori grow and develop into a virtuous and faithful woman of God over the years as she and her family have served as faithful members and leaders in the Body of Christ at Love Fellowship Church of Burlington, North Carolina. She is a dedicated prayer warrior who flows prophetically and administratively in the Lord’s body. She’s also a faithful wife, mother, friend and useful vessel in the Kingdom of God. I know you will be blessed as you read and your prayer will be Lord, Help Me Stay Saved!

Thoughts on Salvation
When I first began this book I was truly interested in what people understood salvation to be so I conducted a survey asking, What does being saved mean to you?
Here are just a few responses that I received from Christians at different levels in their walk with Christ:
To me being saved is not just taking the preachers hand and all of a sudden my body looked new
; it is a commitment to constant change. It is a lifestyle of accepting that I no longer desire to do the things that separate me from God, His presence and His Will for my life; whatever that may be. It is admitting that what I have been doing is not effective and that I need something else to govern my life. It is not being perfect; however, it is admitting that I have faults, problems, issues, and shortcomings, but I am being perfected everyday to follow a perfect God and do His perfect will, with my imperfect self. Sometimes, being saved is a sacrifice; I don’t always get my way now but isn’t that why I got saved… to do something different rather than what I have been doing? Ultimately, it means that I now relinquish the enemy’s reign in my life and my agenda and say God wherever, whatever like Isaiah, I am undone and have unclean lips, but if You can use me: Here I am: Send Me
.
-Latia D., Durham, North Carolina
Being saved to me is knowing that I now live to do the will of someone that was willing to give His life for me. Every time I reflect on the fact that He died so that I could have a better and eternal life is enough to make me want to live as He lived. A sinless lifestyle!!
-Kelvin G., Graham, North Carolina
To me, being saved is more than just an action
but a lifestyle. It means that you have heard, accepted, and ran (acted). Heard means that someone at some point in time shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with you. At that time, or some point in time, of your life you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. After hearing and accepting, you ran with Jesus and left the devil behind.
-Tiffany R., Gibsonville, North Carolina
I believe being saved is when you dedicate your whole life to God’s will and believe that He won’t lead you wrong. It’s having faith and knowing whatever He wants you to do you can do it with the assurance that He knows best. It is living each day striving toward perfection knowing that only through the blood of Jesus we can be made righteous.
-Shawn F, Ft. Myers, FL
Being saved means knowing the new creature that I’ve become has an eternal home; being able to be a humble servant to God and others. It means being able to wake up each morning with a new day knowing the Hand of the Lord is upon me and I can do all things through Him!
-April H., Roxboro, NC
To be saved means that I am FREE from any bondage this world tries to put me in. I recognize that Jesus paid that price for me when He gave up his life on Calvary. Being saved means more to me than I can express with words.
-Lancia T., Sanford, North Carolina
Preface
So what does it mean to be saved?
Most studied Christians define salvation as spiritual rescue from sin. In laymen terms it means you have acknowledged that you were a sinner and that you have accepted Jesus Christ [the Holy Spirit] into your heart to be Lord and Savior of your life…and that is just the beginning.
We often quote Romans 10:9, 10, That if you confess with your mouth,
Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
But…at the end of the day…what does it mean?
Salvation is a free gift that we receive by faith; there is nothing that we can do to earn it (see Ephesians 2:8, 9). A lot of people get [have] the impression that they can confess Christ and then continue on with the sinful life that they once lived and still enter into heaven but that’s not biblical. Salvation is not about having fire insurance
(as my Pastor jokingly says on occasion) it is also about living a holy and blameless life and sharing the good news (gospel) with those that are lost.
When you get saved you are repenting from the sinful life that you once lived. So what does the word ‘repent’ mean that Christians throw around so casually? Repent means to have a deep regret [for sins] and to change those habits. A lot of times people will go up for the altar call and get saved and then you don’t see them for weeks and when (if) they do show back up they have so much going on in their life because they confessed Christ but have not planted themselves into the body of Christ so they can get the principles that they need to grow
