Twenty years ago, I just wrote the first best-selling book. I wrote a book before that, but my mother was the only one who bought it, so it doesn’t count. It took me two attempts to write the books that people really want to read, and as far as I know, even if they try again, they are rare. Over 99% of book writers failed to sell enough books to earn a living. I'm very lucky
I think that after writing a bestseller, everything else will become easier. I thought every book I would publish after that was also a bestseller. I think there will be thousands of people in every speech. And I thought I could make movies from books and become a kind of literary/Hollywood phenomenon. It turns out that for more than 99% of best-selling authors, nothing happened. Writing a best-selling book is a huge help, but thousands of best-selling authors have reduced their money and influence, so in the end they did nothing. That's almost everything that happened to me.
I did not build a platform, but relied on past success. In my calculations, I wasted about ten years, not taking myself as a successful writer (and human) seriously. If I could go back twenty years ago, that book would be my letter to myself. I know that I can go back to two decades ago and sit down and teach myself a basic marketing plan. This sounds strange, but it is true.
Not having a marketing plan cost me millions of dollars, serious international influence and the chance to realize at least some of my dreams. Don't get me wrong. It turned out to be ok, but the only reason to solve the problem was because I implemented the plan. A feasible five-step marketing plan In short, I have five things to maintain the momentum I had 20 years ago. After doing these five things, I should do them again and again. They are absurdly pragmatic. Here they are:
1.Created a BrandScript. I should have clarified my message.
2.Created a one-liner. I should have distilled that message into a single sentence.
3.Wireframed a landing page. I should have elaborated on that message and brought it to life on a clear and compelling website.
4.Created a lead-generating PDF. I should have used a lead generator to capture emails.
5.Created an email campaign. I should have earned the trust of people who had given me their email address by sending them helpful emails that practically solved their problems.
