Introduction
Like many, I am no stranger to stress. My educational experience used to wreak havoc on my anxiety levels. Entering the workforce only created new stresses. Daily tasks like going on dates or to doctor’s appointments can pile on top. Sometimes a simple trip to the grocery store can even cause stress levels to hit an all-time high!
If only I had known from a young age the trick to managing stress: my own two lungs.
The first thing a newborn baby does is take a breath. You do it daily without even thinking. If you’re doing this already, you might wonder, What could change the stresses you’re currently dealing with?
Simply breathing in and out is not the only solution. It is how you use that breath to your advantage that matters most.
Breathing heals the soul. Stress is one thing that can take that away.
The origins of breathing meditation are important. In my own life, breathing was just a normal, everyday occurrence. Once I learned how to control the way the air moved in and out of my body it became much easier to refocus my thoughts in the process. Whether I’m stressed out from my surroundings, work, or money, taking a breath can help.
Stress causes us to have a few reactions. First, our bodies get a little tense. We squeeze our backs, shoulders, fists, legs, and even stomach tight. This is to ready the body for whatever threat might be presented. You either attack the stress or decide to flee as fast as you can.
If we don’t notice that stress is doing this to our bodies, it can cause
