    Introduction

Diet, pills, surgery—the world has been going crazy for many decades now, in a continuous chase for the perfect body. Beauty standards may have changed over the past few decades. But in reality, our obsession with looking a certain way has not gone away. If anything, it has been growing at an exponential rate.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to look good. It helps your self-confidence, it allows you to feel good in your own skin, and it allows you to live healthily for longer.

When looking good becomes an obsession, though, and when the entire world seems to be swirling in circles around fad diets and plastic surgery like they’re the new deities, there is something wrong going on.

If you have never dieted, and if you are looking for a clean, healthy, and sustainable way to lose extra pounds, you are in the right place. Intuitive eating, the main subject of the book at hand, is a concept that has been developed to go against the major trends and promote a view on health and healthy eating that restricts nothing and gives you complete freedom of choice.

If you have dieted before and have found yourself disappointed by all the false promises, you too are in the right place. Intuitive eating will fix everything wrong in every diet you have ever tried, precisely because it is not a diet in the real sense of the word, as much as it is a lifestyle choice.

This book is meant to help you understand why most diets out there fail miserably and why you should not even attempt to try them in the first place. On the surface, most fad diets promise near-miraculous weight loss systems that allow you to be happy, healthy, and beautiful.

However, these diets are rotten from their very core, precisely because they go against the very object of their affection: the human body and the human mind, as well as the connection between them.

The sad truth about the diet industry is that it is all a business—and a very profitable one at that. To be more specific, the diet industry is worth no less than $72 billion (in 2018, and only in the United States) (Studies, n.d.). Regardless of whether you are looking at diet books, diet pills, or fitness programs that promise magic, they are all part of an industry that has been selling you lies, fallacies, and misconceptions.

"So why should we believe you, then," you might ask?

You shouldn’t believe us because we say so, or because so many people have tried this system (and succeeded at it). You shouldn’t even believe us because statistics show it (as you will learn in the chapters of this book).

You should believe us because intuitive eating is the only weight loss approach that makes true sense for pretty much everyone: experienced dieters and novices alike.

Intuitive eating is an approach that focuses on you and the relationship with your body—something no other fad diet truly promotes. Instead
