The streets were abandoned. As soon as dusk hit the more impoverished neighborhoods near the warehouses and docks, all the workers went home for the night.

A sporty cherry red convertible glowed in the light of the full moon among dark alleys. Broken glass from bottles and other rubble crunched under the tires. The car was new, shiny, and recently waxed. It didn't fit in an old neighborhood that was crumbling and forgotten.

Her pure white sweater, and nondescript pink and grey plaid miniskirt could have belonged to anyone. Even her heels were chunky and sensible. You would never have known that she was one of Vibra Corp's leading scientists and a cryptid specialist.

Lachresa was babbling into an expensive-looking phone. Yes, Cora. I know I shouldn't be here all alone. You don't have to mommy me just because I'm single. It's not my fault that you and your husband never do anything exciting.

Her best friend, Cora, chirped from the phone, Now, that's not fair. I'm just looking out for you. That is not a nice neighborhood. You are going to get raped, robbed, and murdered.
