      Something about the study seemed off from the start, but Amber needed the money too much to back out now. The thought crossed her mind briefly as she got off the bus in front of the lab. She could go home, pretend she’d never heard of the sexual response study or the scientists who evaded her every question. Forget about the niggling doubts and go home, where she’d be safe.

      She stood outside in the heat and thought about her empty cupboard. How much money did she have again? A quick look through her purse said she had enough change for the bus ride home, plus another hundred in the bank.
