About this ebook

Natasha Hawthorn is married to her job. Working for a paranormal task force, she's made quite a name for herself. There isn't anything that she hasn't already seen. Unfortunately for her a string of recent murders puts that to the test. With his star detective at a loss, Natasha's boss brings in Bryce Khol, a man destined to be her partner. But there is something not quite right about this enigmatic man. With a soothing voice and shockingly handsome good looks, it isn't surprising that no one sees what she does. A man with a dark, twisted secret. He claims his only desire is to help her, a claim she wants to believe, but why does she keep seeing visions of dark, winding tentacles drawing across her bed sheets? Better yet, why does she like it so much?

Natasha had pictured all of the onlookers letting their imaginations run wild as they stared at the distinctly human shape beneath the tarp. There was nothing to truly see, except for a fire engine red purse resting beside the body, its contents scattered.

It isn’t about you disappointing the higher ups at all, Nat. The sergeant ran a hand over his shiny, bald head, wiping away droplets of rain. They want faster results. You can’t be everywhere at once, not with psychos out there doing shit like this…

    Shit like this…

It was the third murder in three weeks that warranted a look from Section 13, a task force created to tackle unusual homicides that lean heavily toward being paranormal. Although controversial to some, solving these crimes was what paid Detective Natasha Hawthorn’s bills.

The Soulstealer, Sergeant Hill began. That’s what the papers are calling him… I don’t even want to know what the headlines will be tomorrow. If we don’t play this right, Nat, we’ll have another riot on our hands.

She turned quickly on her sharp high heels to look at her boss.

You always think there will be a riot anytime a shifter or anything far from human roughs up some college girl.

I was there in the mid 90’s -in the streets- while you were just a young pup sitting at home. Those riots were real. So real I thought they’d tear down the city.

That she couldn’t argue with. Wetting her red lips she looked away from Hill and down at her cocktail dress. The date hadn’t been going well anyway. If she was lucky the guy would lose her number. Conversation had been decent enough until the talk of work began. She’d
