The plea of Pablo - Erick Carballo

    Chapter 1

It was two in the afternoon. Juana was in the commercial plaza about to start her working day; But I was not alone. He was accompanied by Joaquin, a man in his forties and five, 1.75 tall, in a white hat, in a blue plaid shirt, blue jeans, a brown belt and brown cowboy boots. Both talked quietly.

Come with me to the United States.

But I'm married and I have a son.

-And you are happy? Asked Joaquin.

No, I am not, Juana answered with tears in her eyes. I can't stand my husband anymore. He always comes home drunk.

Then don't think about it and let's go to the United States. Let's go tonight. Look! With me you will have everything. You will not miss anything. Let's start a new life together.

    But Juana was thoughtful.

-I don’t know. Let me think about it," Juana said with her head bowed. I'll call you at my break time.

-It's okay; I'll wait for your call," Joaquin said, leaning his right hand on his truck.

Thank you, Juana answered more calmly. I must go, I'm already a few minutes late.

Yes, that's fine, Joaquin said as he approached Juana to kiss him.

    Bye, I'll call you.

Ok, bye, Joaquin said, raising his hand.

Juana went to the supermarket where she worked while Joaquin entered her vehicle, and then left the commercial plaza.

When Juana arrived at the supermarket, she met the box supervisor, who claimed him for being fifteen minutes late.

But woman, what time are you arriving? Do you think you are the store manager?

No way, boss, Joaquin replied, shaking her head and placing her bag on her shoulder. What happens is that I have problems.

—Yes, woman; but warn that you will be late. We all have problems. But that is not why we will neglect our work. Remember that we live from work.

Yes, I know, boss. I'm sorry.

-It's okay. I accept your apologies, but that is the last time you are late, or else I will have to ask the manager to fire you.

Yes, boss; It's okay, Juana answered.

Well, now go put on your uniform.

    Sure, boss.

Juana hurried to the locker room, thinking about Joaquin's proposal, and after several minutes, she began her workday.

Four hours later his hour of rest arrived; so, he left the store, and the first thing he did was go to one of the public telephones located next to the parking entrance.

When he reached the public telephone, he picked up the device. He inserted two coins and waited.

    - Say? Replied a male voice. -Hi Joaquin? Juana asked uncertainly.

    Yes, he speaks, Joaquin replied.

I am Juana. I already thought about it. Yes, I want to go with you.

    -Excellent!

    But not tonight.

    -Why not?

Because I have to prepare my documentation and some clothes. I also have to do some errands.

-It's okay; Don't worry ... Do you want me to go looking for you when you leave work?

    -If you want...

Of course, I want, Joaquin replied.

-Okay. I wait for you at half past ten," said Juana.

    -I'll be there.

    -Thanks, kisses.

    -You're welcome, a kiss. Goodbye.

Goodbye, Juana concluded, and hung up the phone.

After finishing the call, Juana walked to the dining room of the store and ate some fried chicken with rice she bought in the prepared food section. He read a couple of articles in a show magazine that he carried in his bag. And a quarter of an hour later he returned to his job.

    Chapter 2

Ten kilometers from where Juana was, Luis, a man in his fifties, of short stature and overweight, wearing denim jeans faded and worn by work in construction, a white shirt with red stripes and footwear of work. He was about to finish his workday. He did all kinds of masonry work; but this time he was seen emptying the mixture of the concrete mixer into a plastic bucket.

After pouring the mixture, he went to the fifth floor of a building that had been under construction for a few months; and when he arrived, he took a bucket of mason and began to put the mixture on one of the cement blocks. He placed a block and mix on it to secure the others.

A few meters away was Lino, one of his best friends and Baptist godfather of Pablo, Luis's son.

Then, buddy ... will you go to the canteen today? Asked Lino as he approached Luis.

    "Sure, buddy; You know I'm
