    Seasoning Your Cast Iron Skillet

Seasoning is the process of making the surface virtually nonstick. Simply spread a thick layer of kosher salt on the bottom of the cookware. Add about half-inch of vegetable oil then place over high heat. Wait until the cooking oil starts to smoke, then remove from heat and pour it into a bowl. Use paper towels to rub the inside of the skillet until smooth. It is now seasoned.

    Caring For Your Cast Iron Skillet

    Your main responsibility is to ensure that the seasoning is intact by proper washing, drying then coating with oil. 

    Do not use soap on the pan, simply scrub with a stiff brush (natural or nylon) and hot water then ensure that you dry it completely. Seasoning can be degraded by detergents.

    If you get some sticking and hot spots occasionally, rub the affected area with a little oil and coarse salt.

    Dry your skillet completely to prevent rusting. For complete drying, put the clean skillet in on a low burner or warm oven for some minutes.

    Coat with a light coating of oil when not in use so as to prevent rust.

    Store in a dry place.

    Remember to put on an oven mitt to avoid burns whenever you are cooking with a cast iron skillet.
