Joe becomes an orphan, at an early age.
I order to survive, Joe goes work study at a local business.
When sharpies come in and run the business into the ground, only Joe has a plan.
Joe double crossed the sharpies and the company can survive.
If the company wives are to survive, they have to be trained to work the Willie’s Joint nudie bar.
Joe has a training plan.

I lecture to Hannah, “You know every lady in town, connected with the company. If the ladies can hold out, they can at least get out with something. A lot of money has been stolen from the company. Mostly the company computer system has records of all of the stolen money transactions. The current files and the backup files were destroyed before the previous management left. However, I have a secret set of file backups. The feds now have the data and the company will recover almost all of the stolen money, mainly from insurance companies. It’ll take a few months and there will be some legal action, but there’s no real doubt. If the ladies can hold out, they will be able to cash in the company stock held by their former husbands and each of them should have at least enough money to start over.”
Hannah looks at me for a while, then sort of whispers, “How do they, and I for that matter, survive in the meantime?”
“If we organize the ladies, there are a few executive secretary jobs open, what with the executive secretary ladies who left, along with the rip off boys. That should allow a very few of the ladies to make it financially. As for the rest, there’s a very hard solution, but it’s the only way out of the current mess, for the rest of the ladies.”
Hannah snaps, “That’s nice for some of the ladies, but I’m not an executive secretary.”
“I know that, but I can offer you, and many of the other ladies, a deal that will let you survive. However, you’ll have to talk the rest of the ladies into the scheme. Thus, you and Heather will also have to do the hard solution.”
Heather looks puzzled. “Exactly what is this hard solution that you keep referring to?”
“The company needs to keep everything calm for the next six months. That means no dumping of company shares. The new CEO will right the ship and no one drowns, unless they jump off the ship. There’s, however, no company cash available at the current time. Thus, if your shares, my shares and the ladies’ shares are to be worth a lot of money, all of the ladies who now hold company shares have to play ball. None of the ladies has any real choice. However, they’re going to have to be talked into the only solution. You’re the only one who can talk them into the only solution and you and Heather are going to have to do something that you definitely don’t want to do, in order to sell the solution.”
Hannah looks at me with hope and fear showing in her face, “What do I have to do?”
“For the ladies who can’t get executive secretary jobs, there’s only one hope. Willie’s Joint is going to do the nudie bar thing. Willie’s will pay top wages for top girls. It’s a mean job, but it’ll get pretty much everyone through the next six months or so. It’s the only way out, but it’ll still be tough to sell. However, there’s only one way that you’re gonna sell the idea to the other ladies.”
Hannah puts her head in her hands. She finally chokes out, “Your idea won’t work. Okay, I can still do ... that sort of thing, but most of the ladies can’t.”
“I know that most of the ladies can’t do it, but most of their daughters can. The rest of the ladies, and their daughters for that matter, will have to do janitor, cleaning lady, minimum wage work or work in the nude, down at Willie’s. “It’s gonna be tough to sell what most of the daughters are gonna have to do, but it’s the only way. Once the financial matters are settled, the ladies and daughters can move elsewhere, with enough money to start over and no one will know what they did here.”

Okay, the story goes like this. My old man cut out when I was just six-years-old. Mom raised me, Joe, until I was 14-years-old and then she cut out with some ass hole, supposedly from Hollywood.

Seems like Mom and Hollywood got in a fatal car wreck out on the interstate before they got very far.

So, I find that I’m, at 14-years-old, the mofo what in complete charge of my own life.

I go down to the kiddie high school and set up a work-study type thing with one of the companies out in the big industrial park. I have to fib about my age, as they don’t allow children of age 14-years-old to be exploited. I mean, 16-year-old child okay, but 14-year-old child, no go. (I have no idea at all why, so don’t bother asking me.)

The insurance settlement from Mom’s death is a cool $100,000. A nice sum, but not really enough to retire on. So, I buy a fairly decent, used two-stroke motorcycle and work things out with the heat so that I can ride back and forth to work, school and the grocery store, with no driver’s license. It’s an easy sale, as without some way to get around, I might be a heavy financial drain on the state. (The safety aspects are well under 1% of the concern to the heat, the financial aspects are well over 99% of the concern.)

I spend my first two years at work, working on the big new computer installation for my company. They got a new building and all kinds of communication gear. Since I’m just a kid, I get to crawl around the ceilings and tug the new wiring into place. I keep my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open. When the contractor walks out, over a pay dispute, I’m the only one who knows enough to finish the installation job.

With the work and school thing, I’m a total unknown at school and I’m just the kid who crawls around the ceilings, down at work.

However, down at Willie’s Joint, I’m the guy who cleans up the Friday night Hold ‘Em game. (If I don’t have some kind of break from school and work, I die.)

My last two years of high school and work are kind of strange. A big company buys our little local operation and a couple of sharpies come in to run the company. Run the company into the ground, that is. Since I’m really running the computer operation by this time, I can see what’s happening but I can do nothing. Well, not quite nothing.
